Historia
Georgie, back home at her estate in Eynsleigh, impatiently awaits the birth of her baby. But she has plenty to occupy her: Her new chef, Pierre, has arrived from Paris, and Sir Hubert, who owns Eynsleigh, is back from his latest expedition. It's time for Georgie to throw her first house party to celebrate his return and show off her new chef. The dinner party is a smashing success. Sir Mortimer Mordred—famous author of creepy Gothic horror novels—is one of the guests. He recently purchased a nearby Elizabethan manor nearby because it has a famous poison garden.

Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

You just won't get disappointed by any Royal Spyness mystery. The characters are so vivid and the main characters so lovable, and I love being transported to that time in the past.

Historia
England, 1904. Two years ago, Captain Archie Curtis lost his friends, fingers, and future to a terrible military accident. Alone, purposeless, and angry, Curtis is determined to discover if he and his comrades were the victims of fate, or of sabotage. Curtis's search takes him to an isolated, ultra-modern country house, where he meets and instantly clashes with fellow guest Daniel da Silva. Effete, decadent, foreign, and all-too-obviously queer, the sophisticated poet is everything the straightforward British officer fears and distrusts.

terrible narrator
Revisado: 11-08-24
It's a solid book, but the narration is awful. I'm not even talking about the narrator's speech impediment, (it's odd at first for every character to have that) as you get used to that quickly. It's the fact that the two main characters and most other males of a similar age sound exactly the same, AND the two MCs seem to have a foreign accent that is not supported by anything in the novel. This was incredibly hard to listen to and follow, which is a real shame for a book by such a good author.

I love N.R. Walker, but thought that this novel wasn't for me. I'm so glad that I listened to the reviews on Storygraph and gave to book a go. The story and how it is handled is absolutely fantastic and definitely worth a re-read for me.

Does not disappoint
Revisado: 11-30-21
I have been waiting for this book for so long, and I had sky high expectations as I know what an amazing writer Diana Gabaldon is. And even so the novel blew me away. It took me six days to finish and was a treat from beginning to end, poetry in novel form with a plot you can't put down and characters you can't get enough of.
Davina Porter's reading was excellent as always, but I do wish they made sure that foreign language was pronounced accurately, whether it's Gaelic, French or German. I can tell when it's wrong and it's very distracting. However, I can hear a few sentences read my Davina Porter and know that I'm in good hands. I hope she will narrate all future titles by Diana Gabaldon as well, and may there be many still to come.

Historia
Jane Austen wrote Love and Friendship (originally spelled Love and Freindship [ sic]) when she was just 14 years old. The three notebooks that contain her early works, including this story, are currently on display at the Bodleian Library and the British Museum. Taking the form as letters written by the heroine to the daughter of her friend, this story resembles a fairy tale that lampoons the conventions of romantic stories at the time.

Historia
Luc O'Donnell is tangentially - and reluctantly - famous. His rock-star parents split when he was young, and the father he's never met spent the next 20 years cruising in and out of rehab. Now that his dad's making a comeback, Luc's back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice normal relationship...and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He's a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and someone who has never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. He’s perfect boyfriend material.

Historia
In the early 1970s, Britain seemed to be tottering on the brink of the abyss. Under Edward Heath, the optimism of the Sixties had become a distant memory. Now the headlines were dominated by strikes and blackouts, unemployment and inflation. As the world looked on in horrified fascination, Britain seemed to be tearing itself apart. And yet, amid the gloom, glittered a creativity and cultural dynamism that would influence our lives long after the nightmarish Seventies had been forgotten.
