Mythology can be pretty boring, but this book was great. The reader made it easy to keep listening and the presentation of the myths was refreshing and, at times, just plain entertaining. This is a way to learn about mythology and want to hear more.

I appreciated this book showing how the spiritual side of the Queen affects the political and personal side of her life. She has made many hard decisions during her long reign, dealt with many family issues and looks to God for her strength. The author relates many stories about the Queen that were new to me. I also like his interviews with many of the people he met along the way and related what they think about their Queen. I really enjoyed the book about a women that I really admire.

I "read" this book while driving and while doing some painting in our house. It was a relaxing read, and I hated to have to pause it to do something else. The setting is in an area much like the area we drive through in California. It is set in a small town similar to where some of our family lives so the fact that everyone knows everyone is so realistic. The description of the small town doctor to the guys sitting in the coffee shop to most of the town attending the same church is so real in small communities. The people in the book are from so many backgrounds and the challenges of dealings and interactions with some very shy folk that live in the more forested areas to the newcomers to the town who want to make changes are real. The examples in this story would help someone not used to small town politics appreciate how they differ from the big city life. There is love, caring, violence, health issues, and just working to keep the community united that made this book fun to read.

More about live than delivering babies

The nurse midwife in this book brought to life a lot of the history in the London area. The families she visited taught much about how many of the people in the poorer areas and in the homes of the working families lived in the thirties, forties and fifties. The housing for many was pitiful especially after World War II, but people found a way to make do and their communities were important to how they lived and survived.
The Anglican nuns who trained nurses to become professional midwives were a model of how to give of themselves to improve the medical care of mothers and families. The trainees were thrown into a world many of them did not know and personally grew while being trained by the nuns. Their mode of transportation no matter what time of the day or the weather conditions was a bicycle or walking when they were needed. There was a lot of dedication and sacrifice made by those ladies who were trained midwives. Doctors who later took over the practice of delivering and caring for mother's and their nursing newborns often had to be trained by them. It was a good read with parts that brought tears to my eyes and parts that made me smile.

Would you consider the audio edition of Tin Can Titans to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version of this book.

What does Robertson Dean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The author wrote this book from diaries and letters written by the officers and sailors on the ship so it would be like getting letters from people you know who are sharing the good and bad and sad things that happened and affected them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book is too long for one sitting, but is often hard to find a "good point" for a pause.

Any additional comments?

This book gives a real appreciation for the long hours and dedication of the crews of the destroyers. It tells how they protected other ships, watched and reacted during terrible battles and about the interactions between the men aboard the ships that made lifelong friendships and memories. The war in the pacific was so different from the war with Hitler because of the tactics used by the the Japanese against our sailors and their ships.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who likes fowl language and a lot of graphic sex

What do you think your next listen will be?

the Last MacKlenna

Have you listened to any of Hollis McCarthy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Any additional comments?

Story without the foul language and obsession with sex would have been OK....quit listening about 2/3rds of the way through the book. The reader was pretty good.

Where does The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is easy to listen to. Both the content is interesting and the reader is very good.

Have you listened to any of Emily Woo Zeller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up?

It has inspired me to get organized which is a major project with 30 years worth of stuff and, after reading the book, I hope to get rid of at least half of it. I have already started folding clothes differently and changing the way I put them back in drawers. This has already helped me see what I have in those drawers.

The main character is stranded on Mars with some resources, but not enough on which to survive to be rescued before starving. His ingenuity and ability to problem solve is amazing. I think anyone who appreciates science and engineering would love to listen and see if they can figure out how he can use his skills and knowledge to problem solve. I think someone who isn't geeky would enjoy this guy's will to survive and his sense of humor. Very, very good read!
