Each new book makes me love this author more!

The archetypes present in this story represent a rather accurate depiction of how humans show differential reactions to tragedy.

Taylor does a great job creating this world and its inhabitants. I can’t wait to read more!

I appreciated the character development provided by the author. Each of the four main characters pulled me in with their stories, and I LOVED, LOVED how their paths were interwoven.

Worth the Listen.

There could not have been a more appropriate narrator for this story. Wheaton did a great job capturing the nerdy, arrogant, and eager elements of Parsivol/Z.

The concept of O.A.S.I.S. was extremely creative and the egg hunt was a great plot device.

However, the story fell flat with character development. And the romantic elements felt forced. The protagonist came across as arrogant and awkward, rather than a likable underdog.

All this being said, it was WAY better than the movie.

Cool Concept, but the Characters Lacked Maturity

Purchased because I enjoyed The Martian and Love Rosario Dawson. Sadly, I was disappointed by both. Jazz lacked depth and maturity. The gratuitous use of expletives felt like I was in the hallway of a junior high school. RDs accents were pretty rough too.
The amount of technical detail about physics and space science did not further the plot It felt like the author was trying to showcase how much he knew.

Super fun concept, with some entertaining moments, but it lacked something.

Greek Mythology for Women

This book had the same feel as "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Just as with the story of Arthur and his men, this story of Prometheus, Daedelus, and Odysseus was told from the perspective of a multifaceted goddess learning to accept her own humanity. I had always intended to brush up on my Greek mythology and Miller made it effortless. I enjoyed this book so much that I also purchased WhisperSync so that I could keep reading it at night. I wanted to know more about Circe and her island.

Overall, this book provided a balm to my loneliness. Reading about Circe's struggles helped me feel braver about my own. I plan on looking up other work by Miller now that I have completed this book.

I enjoyed this book. It surprised me and kept me listening the entire time. I wanted to know more about Eve and what happened to her hands. At times I thought hearing about the tragedies that befell the two main characters would be too much to bear, but the author did not sensationalize things and honored the stories she told. I also appreciated how forthright she was when discussing the narrator's sexual promiscuity. All in all, I found this book enjoyable and edifying.

You'll Feel Worse After Listening

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The main characters were compelling and you wanted the best for them. So it was difficult to listen as each became the worst version of themselves. But the biggest thing I regret is what the author did to I would have changed what happened to Tunde.

What about Adjoa Andoh’s performance did you like?

I loved her voice for Tunde. She had a nice musicality to it.

Was The Power worth the listening time?

No. The concept was intriguing, but I felt horrible after listening. It was an ugly story, and for me, there is enough of that in the daily reality of our time.

Any additional comments?

This narrative assumes the worst of humans and its leadership. It leaves one in a very dark place.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

While the book had extremely interesting components, the ending was quite messy. The whole book was building up to a strong climax, and then it kind of fizzled. The "To Be Continued" ending was less than ideal.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The City of Brass?

One of the moments that has stuck with me was the description of the bird creatures (their name is eluding me). The strength of their wings was described in such clear detail.

What aspect of Soneela Nankani’s performance would you have changed?

I know she can't help it, but I wish her voice was not so high and grating. Her male voices were particularly difficult to hear.

Do you think The City of Brass needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. There was no satisfying conclusion to any of the main characters' story arcs.

The stories were great. Some were stronger than others. I would have started the compilation with something slightly less tragic, but overall the representation of voices was refreshing. The narrator is fantastic.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Night Circus to be better than the print version?

I am only familiar with the audio edition.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tsusiko. The moment she is introduced to the story a flair of mischief mystery is introduced. She seems both wise and distant and adds the perfect amount of thoughtfulness to the plot.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's hard to pick just one scene. Any time a different tent in the circus was described I was mesmerized.

Who was the most memorable character of The Night Circus and why?

Chandresh, who started off with hosting midnight dinners, had a flair and torment of the soul that reflected the underpinning conflicts of the Night Circus.
