Historia
Fresh off the success of her groundbreaking first play, A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window tells the tragicomic story of a young bohemian couple in New York's Greenwich Village, struggling to do what's right in a world that rewards everything that's wrong. Sidney is a dreamer who wants his own Walden Pond; Iris is a budding actress whose own backstory is a performance. They're caught in a moment where, "the world is about to crack right down the middle," as the play tackles racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, liberal complacency, and more.

Really good. Don’t listen to naysayers
Revisado: 01-11-24
Really well written , thoughtful, knowledgeable. Wonderful narration although I did have to speed it up. Don’t listen to the naysayers who criticize the supposed “politics.” Everything she says is true —- I think it just strikes a nerve with some folks.

Historia
Born in 1945, Ruth J. Simmons grew up the twelfth child of sharecroppers. Her first home had no running water, no electricity, no books to read. Yet despite this—or, in her words, because of it—Simmons would become the first Black president of an Ivy League university. The former president of Smith College, Brown University, and Prairie View A&M, Texas’s oldest HBCU, Simmons has inspired generations of students as she herself made history.

Inspiring
Revisado: 11-10-23
An inspiring and interesting story. I rarely say this but the author was definitely the right person to narrate her own story. I just wish the details of her adult life hadn’t been skimmed over. She may need to write a sequel !

Really enjoyed the author’s sensitive treatment of the subject matter. It was beautifully written and narrated. Yes, I sped it up to 1.25x but I almost always have to do that.

Needs a professional narrator
Revisado: 06-23-23
Really interesting style a mix of memoir/ fiction. And of course the writing was excellent. I thought long and hard about it but still believe this audiobook needed a professional narrator. Surely one can be found who imparts the same wry tone but brings more varied intonation than the author ( who all but admitted in her text that she is a poor actor).
