Historia
On screen, Danny Trejo the actor is a baddie who has been killed at least a hundred times. He’s been shot, stabbed, hanged, chopped up, squished by an elevator, and once, was even melted into a bloody goo. Off screen, he’s a hero beloved by recovery communities and obsessed fans alike. But the real Danny Trejo is much more complicated than the legend.

Loved this book! Initially it was difficult to listen to him speak, but after a while, it got easier, and his humor about his life’s struggles made it so great!

Historia
Two victims of the infamous Cleveland kidnapper share the story of their abductions, their decade in captivity, and their final, dramatic rescue. On May 6, 2013, Amanda Berry made headlines around the world when she fled a Cleveland area home and called 911, saying: “Help me, I’m Amanda Berry...I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years". A horrifying story rapidly unfolded. Ariel Castro, a local school bus driver, had separately lured Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight to his home, where he kept them chained in the basement.

Incredible courage!
Revisado: 02-24-25
When the story first came out, I remember hearing about it and reading something about it, but I did not delve into it quite like I have done recently. The level of courage that these young women have is just incredible! I can’t even imagine having gone through what they have, and still coming out on the other side of it with any level of positivity or optimism for the future. They have done just that. I hope that these three young women experience nothing but joy for the rest of their lives! It really makes you take stock of your own life, and it brings about a new sense of gratitude for what you have. It was very well put together, easy to follow, and the narration was great. An excellent read.

Strength and resilience!
Revisado: 02-17-25
I cannot even begin to imagine what these young women faced! To endure it one time would’ve been enough, but to endure it repeatedly year after year for over a decade is absolutely unfathomable to me and to most people! The only thing I can think as I finish this book is how badly I’d love to hug each one of these young women. I have nothing but respect and admiration for each and every one of them! I don’t know where you draw strength like that, but I wish all of you nothing but the very best for the rest of your lives. As for the scumbag who did this, I think it’s only fitting that he took the easy way out. He was trash to begin with, and there was nothing strong about him. He was a weak little man with a gun. He had nothing else to offer this world, and while I feel he should suffer for a very long time, hopefully God is taking care of that.

Interesting
Revisado: 04-15-24
It was good in the beginning, but then it got weird. Too far fetched, and it went off into a different direction of Eastern religion. Kinda felt like propaganda to me. As someone who’s recently lost a spouse, this isn’t what I’ve envisioned for my lost spouse, nor do I feel that he’d be at peace with this outcome.

Hollywood Park is a remarkable memoir of a tumultuous life. Mikel Jollett was born into one of the country’s most infamous cults and subjected to a childhood filled with poverty, addiction, and emotional abuse. Yet, ultimately, his is a story of fierce love and family loyalty told in a raw, poetic voice that signals the emergence of a uniquely gifted writer.

I thought that I had obstacles in my life, through single motherhood, breast, cancer, twice, the loss of my husband, at a young age to brain cancer, the loss of my father to a new family, and the list goes on. But her story is phenomenal! if she can get through her struggles and be successful, anybody can do it! My hat’s off to her! I hung onto every word of this book.

Incredible story and author!
Revisado: 08-01-23
I am very familiar with the story of Dennis Radar, as I read a lot of true crime, and follow these stories in the news and such. However, I was never familiar with Kerri, or her story until recently. To say that this lady has an incredible amount of strength is an understatement. Having to deal with a reality so gruesome would be impossible for most people, but somehow, even through her debilitating pain and mental anguish, she continues to rise above, with the help of her family, and most of all God. It is difficult to imagine that one’s faith might be strengthened in a situation such as this, but Kerri proves that it’s possible. The fact that she continues to give grace to her father through everything says a lot about her character. She is definitely somebody that I would like to know and be a friend to you in life. I have so much respect for her.

Revisado: 03-17-23
This book was really good! I love that it gave me the permission to be my unaltered self. I love the fact that the author embraces her aging, and looks at it in a positive light! I am very good read for any young woman or older woman, who thinks that they need to change themselves to meet society’s demands.
