Historia
Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

Historia
The symptoms were not pleasant, and with no health insurance, she had tried to deal with them on her own. But, it finally reached a point where she believed she needed to see a doctor. In August of 2015, she received the diagnosis. My phone rang and when I answered, she said, with her voice breaking, “Dad, it’s cancer. I have cancer.” I felt like the bottom dropped out, and I was falling. But, doing what we always did in our home, we rallied the troops, assessed the situation, and began to research and learn what we could do to fight this wicked invader.

Painful story but not without hope
Revisado: 01-16-22
This is a well written story of one families fight against a rare cancer. Not willing to accept the one year or less prognosis of the medical field they looked for other ways to fight this disease. They were having much success using an alternative means and hopes were high of beating this but one setback caused much of the progress to be lost. However, not all hope was lost. Lauras hope was in something else. The God of the Bible. I heard a quote the other day that really stuck with me. It goes something like this, “ Can we believe in heaven and then be sad when someone goes there??”
Yes its very difficult to let someone go. It leaves a huge void when someone leaves us before their time. But, we who believe are not without hope. Even beyond hope into something called “surety” we who believe have surety! This is a book of surety!

Historia
April 7, 1944 - This date marks the successful escape of two Slovak prisoners from one of the most heavily-guarded and notorious concentration camps of Nazi Germany. The escapees, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, fled over 100 miles to be the first to give the graphic and detailed descriptions of the atrocities of Auschwitz. Originally published in the early 1960s, I Escaped from Auschwitz is the striking autobiography of none other than Rudolf Vrba himself. Vrba details his life leading up to, during, and after his escape from his 21-month internment in Auschwitz.

Best story from the Holocaust I’ve ever read!
Revisado: 01-10-21
I’ve read and listened to a lot of holocaust memoirs but this one was hard to stop listening to. I had heard the story on TV about this escape but the detail the book goes into is so much better. At first I wasn’t crazy about the narrator but as time went in I realized he was perfect for the story. I highly recommend this true story about one of the very few successful escapes from Auschwitz concentration camp! The detail and depth of the writing is incredible. For example:
“Wearily, he held
out his hand. Immediately, a soldier
handed him a short truncheon. The two soldiers who had been
standing behind me forced me back onto a table, and then he
went to work on my face with an efficiency that made the
earlier efforts of his subordinates seem amateurish, wasteful.
The blows sliced into my face
short, savage blows that
fell with the monotonous regularity of the questions. Names
and addresses trickled to the tip of my tongue only to be sent
scurrying back again by some force in my mind that I did not
know existed.
"You're a spy! Who are your friends? Where do they live?"…….
I couldn’t stop listening. Yes, its a long book but, you dont want it to end.
