Lexie Preston hasn’t done much right in her life—at least, not according to her father—but Colton Derricks appears to be the exception. Handsome, wealthy, and successful, Colt is everything a girl should want...though lately Lexie feels less like she’s been chosen and more like she’s been captured.

Swoon worthy, protective MMC
Revisado: 04-30-25
I enjoyed this book just as much the second time around. I was able to read this book as an ARC last spring and now I’ve had the opportunity to listen to the audio of this book that just released this month. This is narrated by a single female voice and it was well done.
This is an easy and enjoyable listen as you’ll get swept into the story quickly with the funny meet cute of Jake falling out of his office chair when he tries to get a glance at Lexie. Then you’ll swoon as Jake falls in love with Lexie and even rescues her from her abusive boyfriend. If you liked the Notebook, then you’ll definitely enjoy this story. Book 2 is coming out this year, so definitely add this one to your TBR.

Good Not Great
Revisado: 08-13-12
What made the experience of listening to A Duty to the Dead the most enjoyable?
The time period this story took place was very interesting to me.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was a good ending, but about 3/4 into the book I could see what was going to happen.
Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?
Bess Crawford, I thought she was a very strong woman, especially for the time period she lived.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I found myself taking breaks.
Any additional comments?
I was excited to find a new series to read. This book was good, but not good enough to keep me wanting to purchase the rest of the series.
