Historia
In the 1970s, Washington’s center of power began to shift away from elected officials in big marble buildings to a handful of savvy, handsomely paid operators who didn’t answer to any fixed constituency. The cigar-chomping son of an influential congressman, an illustrious political fixer with a weakness for modern art, a Watergate-era dirty trickster, the city’s favorite cocktail party host—these were the sort of men who now ran Washington.

Neither "right" nor "left" orientation
Revisado: 05-27-24
I was relieved that the authors took a neutral stance on the subject matter - a rarity these days. I'd gone "down the bunny hole" about myriad topics during the past 20 yrs, but didn't know much about the influence peddling "business" except for bits and pieces, and, of course, knowing that it is a completely corrupt "enterprise" that should be illegal.
Starting with the Reagan era and ending with recent years, the Mullins' take us through the corruption of both sides of the aisle in a way that is both detailed and enjoyable. I had taken a deep dive into most of the Presidencies of my lifetime, including Reagan, Clinton, etc., but found many unknown nuggets in this book.
Highly recommended!

Historia
This book tells a remarkable true story of bureaucratic assassination during the Trump presidency, revealing in vivid detail how career federal employees thwarted President Trumps efforts to drain the swamp. Mark Moyar, a senior political appointee at the US Agency for International Development, discovered evidence of corruption involving five career bureaucrats and reported it to agency officials in 2018.

Moyar is in luv with himself
Revisado: 05-13-24
Wow what a waste of one of my credits. This diatribe is misnamed. It has nothing to do with the title, while everything to do with a autobiography of the sniveling little Moyar, who knows everything and hates almost everyone. He luvs to put down "boomers" (so original, eh Marky?) while cowtowing to religion because he himself is not capable of being moral without a big Daddy in the sky threatening him that he'll get in trouble. He is also so unoriginal that all he can think to do is harp on the Left/Right BS. He hits all the usual songs of the 'tards on the right - anti- woman (except for the "luv of his life," who must be a really weak POS), and anti everything that the silly males on the so-called right harbor resentment about, even while the White race is being genocided. If you don't know about the antics of this cadre of little white males, then do listen because Marky is almost funny in how stereotypical he is. If you wish to find out about corruption in Big Gov, skip this book. I certainly wish I had. The narrator is perfectly fine, though speed up his voice a little if you must buy this tripe.

Should have read reviews
Revisado: 03-22-24
This narrator is horrid. He talks in a monotone but also sounds like a pervert. I just cannot take it, especially since the stories are very dry and you could learn the same info from just reading articles. This is a loser, but Audible will not allow me to return it.

Another failed MD pretends to be a psychologist
Revisado: 03-16-24
Besides being uneducated opinions, since psychiatrists are MDs with not one whit of training in psychology, these 2 are navel-gazers who are in love with their own mediocre ideas. Thanks, Culture and Media, for making these poorly-trained mediocrities believe that they are really something!

Historia
A Lie Too Big to Fail asserts the idea that a government can never investigate itself in a crime of this magnitude. Was the convicted Sirhan Sirhan a willing participant? Or was he a mind-controlled assassin? It has fallen to independent researchers like Pease to lay out the evidence in a clear and concise manner, allowing listeners to form their theories about this event. Pease places the history of this event in the context of the era and provides shocking overlaps between other high-profile murders and attempted murders of the time.

Marred by their political bias
Revisado: 03-13-24
What is it about liberals that they just cannot help but inject their bias into everything? I think it's because they believe that their bias is just innately "right" and that the rest of us must be beat over the heads with their nonsense until we too are True Believers. The narrator was totally in on this, as she had the same kind of breathless, snotty voice that is really grating. Despite these huge flaws, there were many interesting things uncovered here. Hard to find them though, since they keep harping on certain things and you have to listen to a lot of chaff before finding the kernels.

Historia
Alfani argues that the position of the rich and super-rich in Western society has always been intrinsically fragile; their very presence has inspired social unease. In the Middle Ages, an excessive accumulation of wealth was considered sinful; the rich were expected not to appear to be wealthy. Eventually, the rich were deemed useful when they used their wealth to help their communities in times of crisis. Yet in the twenty-first century, the rich and the super-rich have been exceptionally reluctant to contribute to the common good in times of crisis.

Sympathy for the devil
Revisado: 03-01-24
Besides being extremely sympathetic to uber wealthy criminals, Guido really only covers Italy. He throws in stuff about the US which is not even accurate, since I am not a DNA relative of the tribe who runs the US like Guido is, I cannot say if his ramblings about Italy's uber wealthy criminals is accurate. You will wonder all the way through if he will ever get to the point - stop waiting, he won't. His purpose seems to be to run cover for his benefactors.

Boring & disorganized
Revisado: 02-21-24
I guess those who loved this book must be really into 1960s-70s minutia. Hoskyns would take you song by song through records no one's ever heard of, and his opinions are not of concern to me. Also, he's really hung up on Geffen.
