Historia
When Prophecy Fails: A Social and Psychological Study of a Modern Group That Predicted the Destruction of the World is a landmark work of social psychology by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter which was published in 1956. The book examines the case of a UFO cult in Chicago called the Seekers, their expectation of an imminent apocalypse, and their coping mechanisms after the event did not occur.

I’ve read this book in print format, so it is an excellent treatise on what happens to groups and believers of prophetic “visionaries” when, as the title says, prophecy fails.
The reason for the low rating is the narration is TERRIBLE. The reader clearly has no understanding of the material being read, mispronounces vocabulary repeatedly, and the overall presentation is jarringly filled with noticeable edits of retakes. It’s just unlistenable.
An alternate recording is available and is the version you should purchase.
