Historia
CrossFit trainer Ben Bergeron has helped build the world's fittest athletes, but he's not like other coaches. He believes that greatness is not for the elite few; that winning is a result, not a goal; and that character, not talent, is what makes a true champion. His powerful philosophy can help anyone excel at all aspects of life. Using the dramatic competition between the top contenders at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games® as a background, Ben explores the step-by-step process of achieving excellence and the unique set of positive character traits necessary for leveling up to world-class. The mindset and methodology that have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world's most grueling sport can work equally well for golfers, lawyers, artists, entrepreneurs - anyone who's willing to commit totally to becoming better than the best.

inspiring
Revisado: 06-19-19
This book is about the pursuit of excellence and while it doesn't give you a map or path to follow it does some great examples. The end goal is important but more importantly are the individual goals.
I am currently on a weight loss journey. Down 25 lbs and hoping to lose another 51 lbs. Those numbers don't mean anything without action. The routine I build every morning afternoon and night will dictate the result. There will be failures and setbacks but a positive realistic mindset with focus can pull you through inch by inch.
Good read to give you some motivation to get work done. Whether its working out or saving money or something to do at work this is a good read for you.

William Wallace is one of the most famous freedom fighters in history. Over 700 years after his death he is still remembered as Scotland's beloved hero. But while the movie Braveheart helped make him a household name, and he is commemorated across Scotland as a natural leader and a loyal son of his homeland, he is also "the most mysterious of the leaders of the Scottish resistance to Edward I".

Historia
In 2007, a short blogpost by Gawker Media outed PayPal founder and billionaire investor Peter Thiel as gay. Thiel's sexuality had been known to close friends and family, but he didn't consider himself a public figure, and believed the information was private. This post would be the casus belli for a meticulously plotted conspiracy that would end nearly a decade later with a $140 million dollar judgment against Gawker and its bankruptcy. Only later would the world learn that Gawker's demise was not incidental - it had been masterminded by Thiel.

the end turned into an anti Trump campa
Revisado: 05-28-19
You can easily break this book into four parts. Part 1 is the background for every one involved, drags on a bit but it is all pertinent information. Part 2 discussed the case in super long detail. I didn't understand all of the legal jargon but the author did a fairly good job of explaining it. Part 3 is the outcome and aftermath of the case. How is a multi billionaire viewed after he secretly bankrupts a multi million dollar company? This was the most interesting part to me. The 4th part was confusing and irrelevant, nothing more than a platform for the author to demonize Peter Thiel for supporting President Trumps campaign. Really frustrating such a good book would turn sour and turn to BS propoganda and rhetoric.
Overall I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Worth a read of you can borrow it or check it out from a library, but don't spend your own money on it and skip the last chapter.

must read for a superman fan!
Revisado: 03-05-19
WOW! Is the first thing I have to say about this book!! when superman Returns came out oh so many years ago I can honestly say I didn't get it. reading Marv wolfmans version in novel form I have a much better understanding of the vision they were trying to produce. the movie fell short in so many areas but this book explains it all in a way that you can understand.
I still maintain it's not "my" superman and I don't understand things like Lois having a random kid that may or may not be Superman's but from the book you can see where they were going.

terribly disappointing
Revisado: 03-03-19
This book was disappointing because I had such high hopes from Nick Offerman. While Nick Offerman is a great author and incredibly funny his opinion and politics went beyond reasonable sense and got downright offensive.
I purchased this book without reading a synopsis or any details about it, KNOWING how awesome it was going to be. I was very mistaken. Nick Offerman has put great authors in this book, authors I will go out and read myself.
He started the book with the likes of George Washington but while half heartedly praising him he tore him down for everything he did. I respect his hatred of slavery and on that point agree with him but to call George Washington a hypocrite and try to discredit him was offensive.
The only chapters Nick Offerman was generous were the ones about women or non-white people.
He has a chapter on Yoko Ono praising her, her crappy art and her humanitarian efforts while claiming that white men started the NRA and want so badly to hold on to their guns because they are cowards.
His claim is that white males oppressed women and other races so long they are afraid of them raising up without guns they would be helpless.

Book three has turned out to be my favorite so far. so much was built up in the 2nd one and the third just continues weaving a complicated web of lies drama and battles. I took a star off because it dragged a bit in the middle but you need all that information and background. love this book and can't wait to get started on the next one.

Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

not great
Revisado: 11-11-18
I really enjoyed the movie based on this book. A few years later I was in a Goodwill looking for books (one of my favorite pastimes) and I found this one.
I grabbed it thinking I would read a great adventure about two estranged friends reuniting and conquering a goal.
Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed with what the book turned out to be. The stories of two friends on the trail were great but told from the perspective of a man I could not stand. He is smug, superior, pretentious and spends most of the book complaining about his companions on the trail.
Bryson sounds, to put it mildly, like a real
jerk. The way he complains about and describes his companions on the trail makes it seem like everyone one is a weekend hiker, that he is a true mountain man in comparison.
The estranged "friend" who goes on the trail with him never gives a reason why and is never fleshed out as a character. He is derided throughout the book for being slow, overweight and treated like an imbecile.
I could have enjoyed the book with all that in there and focused on the parts I likes... problem is he spends chapters and page after page criticizing everyone in the south, the US government, Americans and
Park Rangers and park services. His politics are flawed, opinion completely unwanted in this context and seems genuinely unhappy. If I wanted to be this depressed I wouldnt have read a book unexpected to be full of triumph and self discovery.
This will definitely be my last Bryson book.
