Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Great story
Revisado: 10-11-23
The book is nothing like the first impression I had when I read the synopsis. This is not a murder bot book, this is great story about a part human part machine that overcame its programming.

As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

Historia
Earth has become a library planet over the last several thousand years, a bastion of both useful and useless knowledge - esoterica of all types: History, science, politics - gathered by teams of "pack rats" who scour the galaxy for any scrap of information. Knowledge is power, knowledge is wealth, and knowledge can be a weapon. As powerful dictators come and go over the course of history, the cadre of dedicated librarians is sworn to obey the lawful government - and use their wits to protect the treasure trove of knowledge they have collected over the millennia.

I read this as a young boy, it brought back fond memories. This doesn’t have a deep story line or impossible new science, just good writing and your own imagination to bring the story alive.

Enjoyed a Sherlock Holmes and Watson Story.
Revisado: 06-21-22
The story’s were well written, great attempt to fit the stories into the Holmes time line. It’s hard to capture the Sherlock of Sir Conan Arthur Doyle, but this Sherlock just a bit to nice, but I enjoyed him anyway.

Revisado: 08-30-18
Having read all the foundation series and the robot series, this fits right in the middle, Trantor is just beginning and earth is still known Daniel (Robot with new mind reading abilities) is not mentioned but you keep wondering, are they being manipulated in some small way? I like Asimov older stories, like this, fun and interesting.

Fun, interesting and nostalgic
Revisado: 05-04-18
This was a great book! I’m a game nerd myself and was fascinated by the history of technology, games and the creative processes behind them.
I really liked that the author didn’t stick to narrow chronological perspective. He would go on tangents like, the development of music games, the games business in England and Russia and others.
I also appreciated that he didn’t exclusively focus on the big games everyone’s heard of, but instead tried to pull out games that were notable for their creativity, technological leaps or even controversy. There’s a broad range of information here.
Content warning: the “F” word is occasionally used in direct quotes. I wasn’t expecting that to be in here.

Peter Ackroyd, one of Britain's most acclaimed writers, brings the age of the Tudors to vivid life in this monumental audiobook in his History of England series, charting the course of English history from Henry VIII's cataclysmic break with Rome to the epic rule of Elizabeth I.

Well researched and interesting!
Revisado: 11-18-17
Book 2 in Peter Ackroyd's History of England series doesn't miss a beat from the first book. So much information is contained here. It's amazing what is known about the day-to-day lives of royalty from this period. So many letters, court records, etc. that tell us so much about these people. It is also amazing how little is known about the day-to-day lives of the general populace of England at the same time. As necessitated by where the records are, this book gives much more detail in the lives of royalty than the rest of England. That said, I don't think Ackroyd misses a thing. I have much greater understanding of the Tudor period and the formation of the Church of England than I did before this book. Really worthwhile reading!
One of my favorite quotes from the book comes from a discussion about the persecution of Catholics in England during this reformative period, i.e. burning at the stake, torturing, etc. The author says something to this effect: "At this point the historian is tempted to pass judgement on the perpetrators of these acts as bigots and as evil people. But we must not reflect our modern sensibilities on those who lived centuries before." At last! Someone who looks at history in a reasonable way! Thank you Mr. Ackroyd. I loved this book and will be moving on to the next one!

In Foundation the chronicler of London and of its river, the Thames, takes us from the primeval forests of England's prehistory to the death of the first Tudor king, Henry VII, in 1509. He guides us from the building of Stonehenge to the founding of the two great glories of medieval England: common law and the cathedrals. He shows us glimpses of the country's most distant past - a Neolithic stirrup found in a grave, a Roman fort, a Saxon tomb, a medieval manor house.

English History in a Nutshell
Revisado: 11-18-17
This book was fascinating! So much information from such a broad period of time crammed into these pages. My favorite part of this book was when the author would have a little aside where he would talk about places and artifacts that are still around today. I found myself looking up pictures of castles, swords, paintings, tombs and more just to get some visuals to what I was hearing about. I'm unsure about if the actual book has any photographs or illustrations, but Google was my friend with this book. Very fun read for any Anglophile with a history interest.
