Ugh!
Revisado: 09-13-17
I hate to write a negative review, but this book calls for it. Perhaps it's just a matter of taste anyway. This book and the performance were an endurance challenge for me. The characters are shallow and the timeline took half the book to become comprehensible. I kept thinking I was supposed to find these characters quirky and compelling, but I found them boring. I'd rather revisit any number of genuinely good books in my library.

Historia
Leonora, known to some as Lee and others as Nora, is a reclusive crime writer, unwilling to leave her nest of an apartment unless it is absolutely necessary. When a friend she hasn't seen or spoken to in years unexpectedly invites Nora ( Lee) to a weekend away in an eerie glass house deep in the English countryside, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. Forty-eight hours later, she wakes up in a hospital bed injured but alive, with the knowledge that someone is dead.

Well told, but the story is a bit weak.
Revisado: 06-19-17
I found this book much better than the reviews I read would have me expect. I think the story is good and is pretty well told. I think it would have been more palpable if the characters were advanced 10 years when the first incidents of betrayal took place. I hate to think that 16 year olds have such devious and malignant characters. I think 26 years old is still really young for the unfolding of the murder as well! But all in all, I enjoyed this book and I thought it very well read.

Ugh!
Revisado: 05-28-17
This was not a really interesting story. The purpose of this book is to educate us on the failings of the human race. Racial discord is a very sensitive and timeless issue which cannot be easily rendered. It will never be resolved. I do not see anyone who will allow that. This books was intended to educate, but in fact, it reinforced the divide. I'm very sorry about that.

Revisado: 11-15-16
The reader was off on so many of the expressions. The story was very disjointed. It had potential but it wasn't fresh. The author has preached once again that racism is a "Southern issue". Sadly, it is EVERYWHERE!

Wonderfully told tale
Revisado: 10-20-16
This is my second visit to Boys Life. I read it upon its release in 1992. I enjoyed the journey then and was very pleased to see it on Audible. George Newbern is a fine story teller. I think he conveys the nuances of the story in just the right ways so that the images are clear in my mind. I have listened to him read Parkland and A Man Called Ove which are also fines works. I will definitely revisit this book in the future. I will gladly recommend this book to other listeners!

Historia
Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Not up to her standard
Revisado: 05-11-16
I have found Lisa Gardner's books to be well written and enjoyable stories. This book struck me as having been by an adolescent. So many of the conversations conducted by a family being held hostage were insipid. Her stories are always well woven and smart, but I knew "who done it" here early on. I'm hoping this is Ms Gardner's only misstep. I really like her work.

Wonderful adventure and Jim Dale is spot on!
Revisado: 04-20-16
Jim Dale has scored again. His reading of this lovely adventure is spot on. I didn't find the train whistles and track noises a benefit. The imagination lets you see and smell the smoke as well. I found the comments by the publisher at the end a sad addition. You don't need to apologize for Jules Vern. Ever.

Not great. But good. Would not revisit this book. Once was enough. Not sure I enjoyed the sound effects which occasionally presented themselves. I wonder if the words didn't create enough drama. ??
