Spent my Monday holiday listening to this audio. This is a really great narrator doing an exceptional job with writing that is not great for a story where nothing really happens. The narration kept me interested and I always knew who was speaking even with as many characters that are women. I felt Ms. Bryan really captured the class difference between the two heroines, and with the extended secondary characters as well. I kept waiting for something to actually happen. For this to be a modern story set in such a free thinking place such as Portland- the work together conflict was not believable as a reason to keep the two characters apart. That being said, the narration drew me in and I might even listen again now that I know not to expect anything to happen with the plot.

Trying to catch up on my reviews. And yet, I may still not be able to write about this one. I love Nabokov's canon and Lolita is an amazing piece of literature, its writing sings and sadly gets overlooked because of it containing a controversial topic. This offering, with Mr. Irons' narration captures everything I look for in audio book listen. I may come back later when I can find more words.

I love Anna Kendrick so I was excited to listen to her tell her own story, Having listened to this memoir has left me with mixed feelings. Still love Ms. Kendrick and her talents shine on the stage and screen. This narration, however, didn't feel as engaging or offer a more insider intimate feel that I thought it might. It sounds more dry where I was hoping, as I do with all audio versions, for it to sound more like a friend telling me an anecdote over dinner.

On a whim I listened to Innocent Hearts and really enjoyed it, the narration and quality. Thought I would continue the story to see what happens next with this one Promising Hearts. However, the echo throughout and the added hiss was an unfortunate turn off and the narration didn't draw me in enough to get beyond it. With those elements and it not being the narrator I enjoyed so much for the first book in the series, I decided to return it and gift the credit instead.

This is a fresh, new take on one of Radclyffe's early classics. While her longtime followers will recognize and appreciate the growth of her writing craft in the years since Innocent Hearts was first published, the story remains as sweet and charming as when I first read it.

Just as I enter a movie theatre with an open mind when I see a film based on a favorite book, I approach audio versions of books I have read as works of art all their own, as the product is in an entirely new media. I do not expect another person's interpretation to match mine exactly, but I do expect that the audio book keeps the tone and spirit of the original print book.

The narrator of this work exceeds those expectations. Her performance is engaging, her diction clear, and her voice a delight to listen to -- like she is reading this to me in front of a cozy fire. Through Radclyffe's words and Ms. Bryan's performance, I was transported to the Montana Territory to be right there with Jessie and Kate throughout their love story. I thoroughly appreciated a narration that allowed me to discover subtleties and nuances in the work that I had not picked up on in my first reading of the book.

Moreover, I further appreciated the narrator's choice to keep the reading at a pace at which my mind works. So many of the old-school audio books I find way too slow, and my mind begins to wander. This was not the case for Innocent Hearts, and I applaud the narrator for her animated interpretation and for maintaining the modern trend for audio performances to reflect a pace closer to natural conversation. By no means do I think this lessened the characterization of Jessie and Kate, nor do I believe this affected the impact of their love or passion.

One criticism is the choice of audio sample provided here. I don't believe it is reflective of the whole book, and does not do the work justice.

While this might not be Radclyffe's finest work, it is an enchanting love story that is further heightened by Ms. Bryan's stellar narration. It's definitely worth a listen.
