refer to title, i highly recommend reading this book piece by piece, when a book, movie, song or show is mentioned, write it down somewhere and then watch, read or listen to it for a full and possibly over-dramatic experience. Only do this if you are willing to spend a lot of time studying the 80’s (i highly recommend this experience)

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this novel! First, the narrator was perfectly cast. She had a great middle grade voice and distinguished beautifully between the various characters with subtle voice changes. The story itself moves at a face pace. The world-building is top notch and consistent and the characters are well-realized and relatable.  The predicted tech is believable and slightly, but not too scary, befitting the target middle-grade audience. I particularly liked that this book is not dumbed down just because it’s for younger readers. I also loved a female main characters who is STEM savvy, smart and strong. Finally, this would make a terrific classroom book. It’s well-crafted with a lot of interesting possible discussion topics around privacy, technology, globalization, and the like.

One of the Best Books I've Listened To!

I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks on Audible. This book goes is in the top 5% of all the books I’ve listened to.

This book is a fantastic one. Period. The narrator, Arielle DeLisle, does an amazing job bringing these characters to life. She has even created an accent for a Patois that the author invented for the book in the same way that an accent was created for the Belters on “The Expanse” (great series!). Really, it’s some of the best acting I’ve heard on an audiobook.

A little about the book:
ReInception is set 100 years in the future in New York City. It's 50 years after the US had a second civil war and society is divided into a caste system. ReInception is a technology that is used to modify human behavior, but the company is hiding the truth about how safe its product is. This is a world where no one has any privacy and where parents can modify their minor children through the use of ReInception. Nothing is off limits, from inhibiting their sex drives to making them physically ill from drinking.
Against this backdrop is our main character, Leandrea, a 20-year-old, unmodified, college student who struggles with feeling ordinary in a world where all it takes to be great is ReInception. The book opens on the day she turns 20 and therefore has the right to modify herself.

A few reasons I loved this book:
The main character is relatable and flawed.
The world-building is top-notch, consistent, and very credible. Straus builds her future world on the foundation of our New York so that you can recognize and envision everything she describes.
A lot of interesting speculating about the unforeseen consequences of what we do today on the future. Straus hits on sensitive topics in a way that's matter-of-fact and without being preachy.

This book is appropriate for 16 and up. It was refreshing to read a book with a college-age main character. I don't see many of these and this felt like the right age for Leandrea to be grappling with her power in the world and her ability to change the future just as she reaches the age of majority.

This book was really interesting - every time I thought I knew where it was going, the author threw in a new twist. This was a really complicated concept; hard to explain scientifically, and difficult to write clearly. Crouch did a great job with both. He also could easily have gone down the rabbit hole with some of the wrong turns taken by the main character, but he struck just the right balance of giving a sense of possibilities and moving the story forward.

Really fun read and the narration was also really good - excellent pacing a voice.

I found this book so frustrating - the writing is gorgeous and the author really nails down how different people react to tragedy, blame and guilt, but good grief, it took so long to get to the point and once the secret is revealed, I really thought that it was not a great choice to keep it a secret. I understand that this is a device Moriarty often uses, but it seemed like the secret is kept just to keep you reading rather than because it makes the book better and certainly, you want to reader to have a better reason to want to go on. The only reason I finished was because we read this for book club, otherwise I would have quit.

The author reads rather slowly and it's a slow book - my eureka moment at about 60% of the way through was that I could listen at 2x speed and still understand everything - wish I'd done so from the start.

I know this book got some mixed reviews from hardcore hard case crime fans, but I'm not a hard core hard case crime fan and I loved this book. This was like a graphic novel come to life or like Scooby Doo, but sexier. I loved the characters and the narrator was spot on. I also really enjoyed how King incorporated his clearly well researched carney lingo into the book making you feel like the protagonist had really been there.

I didn't want this book to end and I was sad when it was over. I wanted to stay along for the ride just a little bit longer.

I did question King's choice of making this book take place in an older man's past instead of as a first person present narration. I didn't think that the look back added any value, but I also didn't think that the choice took away from the fun or speed of the book, it was just something I wondered about.

I'm a Stephen King-come-lately fan, but I've gobbled his three most recent books up. While I never read The Shining and the movie scared the heck out of me, I didn't find this book so much scary as a bit campy and super entertaining. I loved finding out what happened to Danny-- the little boy from The Shining. This was classic King, combining the real with the super-natural, seamlessly and somehow making it not seem too goofy. The characters were great, of course. A super fun listen.

Reading this book is like being inside of someone's strange dream. The book started off a bit slow for me, but then I got into it - it's just totally bizarre and you have to go with the flow. It's a book about Japan, but I was surprised at how Western the characters and references seemed.

The narration wasn't right for me. The narrator is very talented and had facility with many accents and with creating different characters. I think it was a valiant effort to relay what was in the book, but my personal preference would have been something more straightforward. I'm not sure everyone would feel this way and this was a talented guy, so I don't want to knock him. I think it was just a different production opinion.

My husband has been telling me about Ringworld for about 10 years now, so when I saw it available on Auidble, I was excited to hear this book, which stuck with him since his teen years. This book is super unique and creative. It doesn't feel dated at all. I also found it to be a very different kind of Sci Fi book, as much about the characters and their personal curiosities as it is about the RingWorld itself.

This is not a rock 'em sock 'em space war sci fi book - it's much more cerebral and about the characters from three different species trying to relate to each other while they learn the secrets of the RingWorld.

My ONLY problem with this book was that it ended rather abruptly! I guess I have to listen to the next in the series. But this book is definitely worth the listen and totally earned it's Hugo!
