Historia
Reporter Sam Kean reveals the periodic table as it’s never been seen before. Not only is it one of man's crowning scientific achievements, it's also a treasure trove of stories of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. The infectious tales and astounding details in The Disappearing Spoon follow carbon, neon, silicon, and gold as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, war, the arts, poison, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.

Elemental For Anyone With An Interest In Science
Revisado: 10-30-11
I had heard about this book on NPR, when they interviewed the author. I truly enjoyed this exploration of the periodic table, and the elements. I wish high school chemistry had been this intersting. Sam Kean explores the history of many of the elements, from their discovery to modern day importance. Very informative and entertaining.

Historia
Coming into the Country is an unforgettable account of Alaska and Alaskans. It is a rich tapestry of vivid characters, observed landscapes, and descriptive narrative, in three principal segments that deal, respectively, with a total wilderness, with urban Alaska, and with life in the remoteness of the bush.

Welcome to Alaska
Revisado: 10-30-11
In my opinion, and that of several Alaskans I have spoken with, this is the best book on contemporary Alaska. I have read it twice, and listened to it two more times. It is one of my favorite John McPhee titles. McPhee is arguably one of the most readable essayists in contemporary literature. Each of his books is a treasure, Coming into the Country being one of his finest works.
