Beautifully written and brought me to tears
Revisado: 08-21-24
I have read all but one of this author's books. I loved them all, but this one is my favorite. I applaud the author for the accuracy and sensitivity she brought to the subject of Autism. It made me feel like I could understand my son better.

Dynamic characters and important subject not often seen in fiction
Revisado: 06-26-24
I loved the characters and point of views. The family's love for each other was inspiring. Most of all, I appreciated this author's careful detail and description of what it's like to be diagnosed with and live with Huntington's Disease. It's obvious much research was done. Chronic illness and terminal illness is difficult to find in fiction, especially with such care given to detail. Well done! Highly recommend. I'll be reading more titles from this wonderful author!

Dynamic characters and compelling story
Revisado: 01-31-24
I wish I knew what happened with India and her parents and if they made up or not. That was the only lose end but I understand why the author ended it that way.

Historia
When Mark Henick was a teenager in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, he was overwhelmed by depression and anxiety that led to a series of increasingly dangerous suicide attempts. One night, he climbed onto a bridge over an overpass and stood in the wind, clinging to a girder. Just as Henick’s feet touched open air, a man in a brown coat encircled his chest and pulled him to safety. This near-death experience changed Henick’s life forever. So-Called Normal is Henick’s memoir about growing up in a broken home and the events that led to that fateful night on the bridge.

Real, Courages, Inspiring
Revisado: 03-14-22
Mark Henick's story is authentic, courageous, and inspiring. He's using his struggles with major depressive disorder, social anxiety disorder, suicide attemps, and the bumby road to recovery to help others feel less alone. I've read dozens of memoirs and this is the best. it is well written and captivating.

My New Favorite Book!
Revisado: 09-16-21
I haven't read this author before, but he blew me away with this book! A must read! I'm an author myself, and a voracious reader. I can honestly say Anxious People is my new favorite book, and I've read a lot and taken a plethora of writers' classes. From the gradual unfolding and intersecting of each unforgettable and three dimentional character, to the perfectly paced plot, to the witty and creative writing style, this book is a true work of art. I also appreciated the mental health aspect. I listened to the audio book on my drives, and I found myself actually looking forward to my long commute, which I typically laothe. I found myself simultaneously dying to find out what was going to happen and not wanting the book to end. I bought a hard copy for my son. I know he'll love it, too. This is the kind of book you can't put down and you're sad when it ends. I'll definitely be reading more of this author's work
