Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

world war z with dragons
Revisado: 04-02-25
story is fine, voice acting is great. like a radio drama with a superb cast! story itself makes sense but it's trying a little too hard to be the source material. I found myself disappointed pretty quickly - both as a fan of dragons and wwz - and never really got into it, but it's an enjoyable enough listen. there's a certain narrative magic it's missing, like with a Zach Snyder movie. not really sure what else to say here 🤷♂️

Historia
Football is a game of steps: Quick steps. Trick steps. Even sneaky, slick steps. Whether you're on or off the pitch, you best know your footing. And for Max Best, that's no problem at all. He has the ability to read players to a T—thanks to the sentient stat-tracking display he received after saving an elderly man in the streets. Now, as director of football for Chester FC, everything's falling into place for Max. His team is climbing the ranks. He's executing great transfers and hired a literal old hand for his brand-new women's team. What could go wrong?

yeah, still 5 stars across the charts. Luke Francis really picked it up after the first book imo and Ted Steel has done it again.
BUT now I'm hooked on my old FM23 career. So that's fun 😂

Historia
Not too long ago, Max Best was stuck in a dead-end job, trudging from one day to the next and mourning the fact that his burning love of soccer was getting buried in a landslide of cold statistics and intangible tactics. Then, after saving an old man from a mugging, he was "cursed" with the ability to instantly ascertain a soccer player's attributes on sight and use that knowledge to upgrade his own skills. Now he's making a name for himself as an amateur team manager, but it's not enough for him to ditch his dud of a job.

Historia
Max Best is not living his—ahem—best life. His job's a drag, his home's a shooting gallery, his hopes are nil, and lately, even his beloved game of football has devolved from a chaotic, ecstatic delight into a cold, calculating equation complete with stats, tech terms, and mindless lingo. But then Max rescues a mysterious old man from a mugging. "Nick" seems friendly enough . . . until he innocently asks his savior, "Would you sell your soul to be a top football manager?" Naturally, Max says yes, and in that instant, everything changes.

Completely unexpected and amazing!
Revisado: 03-04-25
I stumbled onto the first book here by accident, because I like litrpg and soccer. It looked kind of mid honestly (no offense Ted), but I got the first two books on a sale. When I finally got around to trying it - JUST TRYING TO SEE IF IT WAS ANY GOOD - I realized pretty quickly I'd made a big mistake.
It wasn't good.
It was the Best.
Montage cut to me tearing my way through the first 4 books with the amazing narrator Luke Francis in a matter of days. Incredible. I'm hooked. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. But the next book isn't out yet...
What's this? A new monthly perk dropped?!? Book 5 comes out in a few weeks, I spend my points and lock in the pre-order. And wait. And wait.
I crush it pretty quick and the feeling of anticipation is too much. I found his RR and used my old account I'd set up to read HWFWM but never got around to doing, and now I'm most of the way through book 6.
TLDR - Excellent progression, superb REAL LIFE soccer worldbuilding I'm geeking out on, Football Manager-like system, and most importantly great characters that I'm invested in. It's quickly become one of my favorite litrpgs, up there with He Who Fights With Monsters and Dungeon Crawler Carl.
PS - Ted, in my headcanon Henri Lyons is not only black but is pretty much Thierry Henry. Do with that what you will but don't ruin this for me 🤣

enjoyable, slightly uneven power fantasy
Revisado: 12-09-24
This is for you if you like anime, harem, overpowered mc, and a mostly YA feeling isekai.
This feels like an engaging story with memorable characters, a pretty easy going and comfortable read. the genre isn't normally my thing but I appreciate the author providing a review copy.
the narrator does an EXCELLENT job!

very overrated, one of my least enjoyable listens
Revisado: 11-11-24
I don't write many reviews and generally enjoy the books I get. most are 3-5 star ratings, so this one caught me by surprise. This genre is in my wheelhouse, and based on the description I thought I'd enjoy it. "Michael Crichton-like" it is not. Massive editorial leaps regarding ecology, culture, and other sciences were a turn off for me. However, the one-note, unlikeable characters were unforgivable in a book that had had a lot of ideas and no heart. By halfway through, I was hate-listening just to get through it. The narrator is adequate, but a lot of mispronunciations (British v American English for North American characters) and maybe a difficult translation from the original German hurt the performance.
TLDR, save your credit and just get a real Crichton novel instead

In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Another Robinson Win!
Revisado: 09-28-24
This book was awesome and reminds me a lot of Island 731. you don't need to know anything about any of this other works. You can just jump into this completely green and enjoy the ride. When I say that Robinson writes popcorn thrillers, I don't mean that they just go down easy, but that they would be best enjoyed on the big screen. I can't wait to see this one as a feature film!
extra credit for having the squad named after some of my favorite authors... LFG 🤘

Historia
In the spring of 1903, locomotive 311, known as the Majestic, carried more than one hundred passengers toward a tunnel through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. But then the mouth of the tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train—and everyone on it—was never seen again. Seven years later, a gang of cattle thieves and cutthroats wait on horseback for a train car full of railway cash—a payroll they intend to steal. What they will discover, however, is that the approaching train isn’t the 5409. It’s the missing 311, a train only whispered about around dying campfires.
