Historia
After getting canned from the Seattle PD, brilliant, wisecracking Thomas Prescott follows his sister Lacy to Philadelphia, where she swims on the Drexel University team. While Thomas’s slapstick antics mask a keen analytic mind, it’s his nose for trouble that leads him again and again into dicey situations. The ex–homicide detective is not long in Philly before getting caught up in two high-powered criminal cases. Thomas stumbles into a crime scene amid the Occupy Philadelphia protests. Activist Brooke Wexley has been strangled within sight of city hall.

Love the snark!
Revisado: 01-21-24
As a professional snarker myself, I find this author to be a kindred soul. Fun story too.
The voice actor is also quite excellent and holds your attention well.

An enjoyable listen
Revisado: 11-05-23
This is a promising start to a new series.
I have listened to the Aubrey Maturin series (21 books) thrice (I took Grammerly's advice on that word because I never use it). I am a big fan of this whole genre of historical novels. This series has the potential to be quite excellent.
From time to time, it starts to get a bit formulaic, but then it sucks you back in with some curious twists and turns. I look forward to the next book in the series.
There are books that when I see who is reading it, I am hard-pressed not to get it. I make no bones about my love for Nigel Peever's work. He's one of my three or four favorite voice actors.
If you love this genre, I think you will enjoy this book.

Slightly predictable but completely fun!
Revisado: 04-10-23
James Keffer delivers yet another immersive and engaging book in this fifth novel. This edition is a little on the predictable side in places, but it still manages to suck you into the story. When reading these Brewer novels, I feel the urge to take to the sea for high adventures and tropical weather - especially when it's winter in the Northern climates.
With many well-written novels, a substandard voice actor can take a good book and make it unbearable, but when Nigel Peever is on the job, you are always in for a treat. Peever continues to set new standards with masterful acting and fantastic production, foley work, music, and more.
I look forward to the next installment of Brewer's Adventures. I will grab a hot cup of tea and my cutlass and prepare to board!

Revisado: 12-08-22
I love the Pennywhistle books for their creativity and their historical settings. The writing is truly top drawer, and the narration is really excellent.
Some audiobooks are ruined by bad narration, but Peever is truly fantastic - one of my favorite narrators.

Historia
In 1942, America's deadliest fighter pilot, or "ace of aces" - the legendary Eddie Rickenbacker - offered a bottle of bourbon to the first US fighter pilot to break his record of 26 enemy planes shot down. Seizing on the challenge to motivate his men, General George Kenney promoted what they would come to call the "race of aces" as a way of boosting the spirits of his war-weary command.

Revisado: 11-13-22
I thoroughly enjoyed race of aces. The stories of these men is truly inspiring and heartbreaking. I recommend this book highly for anyone who loves aviation and World War II history. There is so much in this book that I as a historian I’ve never heard. It makes me respect the greatest generation all that much more.

Fun and Riveting
Revisado: 08-21-22
I really enjoy this twist on Nautical Historical Novels. The Royal Marines in most books serve as a supporting role for the Navy. Danielski does a wonderful job taking history and marrying it with fiction in his novels. Pennywhistle is a character that you naturally cheer for, he is brave, learned, and yet has appropriate compassion for his men as a good military leader.
As usual, the narration of Nigel Peever is masterful and his production is a cut above. Peever is one of those few actors that leave you searching for other books that he has produced.
Overall, this book is excellent and I can't wait to hear the next in the series.

An Excellent Book - Preformed Masterfully!
Revisado: 02-07-22
The Suppressor is a fantastic book in a familiar genre.
This action thriller is a tale of a flawed and haunted avenging angel named Silence Jones. Like so many other books reaching back into antiquity, our hero carries deep wounds of both the physical and emotional variety. The unique twist on such a theme is truly worthy of your time.
The book is well written, but it is also masterfully performed by Gary Bennett. Bennett draws you in with a fantastic performance, and he makes you feel sad when you have to put the book down for a time. A terrible performance has ruined many great books, but this one will not let you down.
Five stars across the board.

Historia
Newly promoted to captain, William Brewer is tasked to serve and defend British interests in the waters off Brazil. But who defines what constitutes Britain’s Interests? Portugal’s former colony is declaring independence, and an independent Brazil might better serve Britain’s economic development. King George, however, chooses to support Portugal’s monarch and his efforts to retain the colony. At the very least, Portugal’s king wants to retrieve the royal treasury that was sent to Brazil for safekeeping during the Napoleonic wars.

Revisado: 01-02-22
I enjoy most tall ship novels. The Brewer series is good fun. This volume is at times a little disjointed and ends abruptly leaving it set for the next in the series, but nonetheless was enjoyable and fun.
I believe that Peever's outstanding narration and production work makes the audiobook very worth your while.
