Historia
Izumi Tanaka has never really felt like she fit in - it isn’t easy being Japanese American in her small, mostly White, northern California town. Raised by a single mother, it’s always been Izumi - or Izzy, because “it’s easier this way” - and her mom against the world. But then Izumi discovers a clue to her previously unknown father’s identity...and he’s none other than the Crown Prince of Japan. Which means outspoken, irreverent Izzy is literally a princess.

VERY YA lit…..
Revisado: 06-02-21
This story is targeted at an extremely young audience. It never developed any depth of character at all. A young Japanese American girl finds out that she is actually a princess and the father she never knew is the crown prince of Japan. She goes to Japan at his request, then the whole story focuses on a romance with her body guard. It barely even touches on the relationship with her father and the reality that she is royalty. (With the exception of snarky Royal cousins and tabloid fodder). It felt very young and empty to me. It was a disappointing read.

Historia
Still living in the same white farmhouse where she grew up, Curry watched those closest to her leave - her parents by tragic death, her husband to war, and her best friend, Tom, who walked away because he couldn't deal with being left alive. Then one day, without warning, Tom returns. Curry appears as down to earth as she ever was, but her survival has come at a cost, and now it's up to Tom to help Curry reopen her heart to life's joy.

Super light and a little cheesy
Revisado: 11-11-20
Very light read. I never felt much for any of the characters. The tone was sometimes hard to place. Weirdly descriptive sex scenes that seemed totally unnecessary. Not my favorite

Historia
Twenty years ago, Abigail Sorenson’s brother Robert went missing one day before her 16th birthday, never to be seen again. That same year, she began receiving scattered chapters in the mail of a self-help manual, the Guidebook, whose anonymous author promised to make her life soar to heights beyond her wildest dreams. Now, two decades after receiving those first pages, Abi is invited to an all-expenses paid weekend retreat to learn “the truth” about the Guidebook. It’s an opportunity too intriguing to refuse.

Interesting way to tell a story.....
Revisado: 08-11-19
The narrator was amazing! But this story, although well told and satisfying, was a bit exhausting too. The author is amazingly perceptive and descriptive, but I often would tune out a lot because it.

Historia
It is 1988. On a dead-end street in a run-down suburb there is a music shop that stands small and brightly lit, jam-packed with records of every kind. Like a beacon, the shop attracts the lonely, the sleepless, and the adrift; Frank, the shop's owner, has a way of connecting his customers with just the piece of music they need. Then, one day, into his shop comes a beautiful young woman, Ilse Brauchmann, who asks Frank to teach her about music.

I enjoyed this story so much. As a music lover, I appreciated the way that the power of music was woven into the human condition. The characters were all beautifully flawed and endearing. The narrator deserves an award!

Got all lost in shimmering light.::.
Revisado: 01-06-19
This story completely dissolves into descriptions of auras and colors. There was no real resolve of any of the story lines. Very unsatisfying. (And annoying the way she goes on and on about all the colors she sees. It’s like she no longer lives in reality, just floating away in a sea of new age phrases and color swirls)

Fun but really light.
Revisado: 10-01-18
This story was fun, but it’s been written so many times before. There was never enough character development for me to really care about anyone. It seems more like young adult fiction. The narrator had a lovely voice and did a good job.

Amazing narration!!!!
Revisado: 08-02-18
This book was brilliantly written with a narrator that captured it perfectly! I typically don't like it when narrator uses different voices or accents to contrast characters, but this was an acception! She brought the characters to life! Well done. Tragic past of a young woman begins to heal when she is finally exposed to genuine caring........
