I had the honor of meeting Courtney Preiss at a bookstore in Manasquan NJ. As a Jersey girl this book held my attention for its perfect descriptions of The Jersey Shore. However all readers will enjoy the creative storyline and candor of the main character Caroline Kline.

The characters were not likable. The dialogue between Lotto and Matilde plus their sex life was completely ridiculous for a long time married couple. Remnants of Fifty Shades of Gray where an orgasm happens with the touch of a hand on a thigh. I kept listening, chasing a ghost and a story that never evolved.

This book isn’t terrible but it isn’t a wow either. The sex stories become redundant and much like Fifty Shades of Gray I question how easily and often this woman had orgasms! The author tries to thread a plot or a “behind the scenes of a sex worker” story line that is weak and left me with questions. Perhaps that’s the point.

Loved the story

This was a beautifully written book about the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters… With a huge plot twist! A great book club discussion book. My only complaint was the reader read Ruth’s voice like an old woman. Ruth was only 57. She gave her an antiquated accent as well.

With all due respect to the reader her voice and delivery was wrong for this topic. She reads it like a school marm/National Geographic narrator which was a major distraction for me from this important subject.
