Historia
The tale begins with Agnes. After losing her baby, Agnes is called to the great manor house to nurse the local lord’s baby boy. But something is wrong with the child: his nails grow too fast, his skin smells of soil, and his eyes remind her of the dark forest. As he grows into a boy, then into man, a plague seems to follow him everywhere. Trees wither at the roots, fruits rot on their branches, and the town turns against him

Angst Drawn out Way Too Long
Revisado: 10-06-24
I'm a fan and had high hopes for Kai and Rhyson after Book 1 of the Soul series. However the embarrassing dilemma that was teased at the beginning of the book took waaaaaaaawaaaaaaaay too long to be resolved..... it was drawn out all the way to the end. It was frustrating and repetitive. i wished i would have skipped over all those angsty passages spent with Kai obsessing over her fear of sharing this problem with her man, despite advice from trusted friends to do so. If she didnt feel safe to share embarrassing things that occurred before the relationship began, they will fall apart when real problems occur within it.
Hoping for redemption in Book 3 Refrain. I know Kennedy Ryan can stick this landing! I'm already encouraged by the fact that this audiobook is several hours shorter.

Historia
Peter Gardner, a white scientist from England, is exiled after performing dangerous experiments on patients. He flees with his beautiful young daughter, Virginia, to the Caribbean, where he raises her in isolation among few people - all natives. One of those natives is Carlos, a young boy of mixed race. Virginia and Carlos develop a forbidden friendship, which later blooms into a love that binds them above all cultural, racial, and paternal resistance. This is a touching love story and a haunting coming-of-age tale.

Historia
The Earth had buckled, and, in that movement, all that was not in its place fell upon the Earth’s children, upon the blameless as well as the guilty, without discrimination. At the end of a long sweltering day, as markets and businesses begin to close for the evening, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude shakes the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. Award-winning author Myriam J. A. Chancy masterfully charts the inner lives of the characters affected by the disaster

heart wrenching
Revisado: 12-12-23
The author takes us with several characters from all walks of life as they experience the Jan 12 2010 earthquake in Haiti and its aftermath. The book was heart wrenching , bringing to life personal experiences that may have only been reported as statistics by the international media. I enjoyed the narration, the accents, the use of Haitian Kreyol and real place names. What a resilient nation!

Practical and Inspiring Money Advice!
Revisado: 10-21-23
Bruce Scott's book gave me real life money advice. He gave practical examples that were relevant to life in the USA and Jamaica. I feel inspired to get my financial house in order, beginning today. The narrator should have been coached by someone more familiar with the pronunciation of the Jamaican phrases in this book.

Joining award-winning Jamaican authors such as Marlon James, Leone Ross, and Thomas Glave are two "special guest" writers with no Jamaican lineage: Nigerian-born Chris Abani and British writer Ian Thomson.

Powerful stories , Appalling narration
Revisado: 05-22-23
Kingston Noir is a powerful collection of dark and emotive stories. That said, the producer needs to do better. The story titles and their respective authors NEED to be listed by Audible in the chapter drop down. The narration was dismal. it contained some of the WORST attempts at Jamaican accents I have ever heard. Real place names in Kingston were mispronounced. They clearly had no actual experience of Jamaican culture or the things they were reading and did not consult the authors to enlighten them. Authors' names were mispronounced. Why??? Could Audible not find 2 real Jamaicans to narrate these stories???

Historia
In the 1970s, Topper and Sanya flee to Miami as political violence consumes their native Kingston. But America, as the couple and their two children learn, is far from the promised land. Excluded from society as Black immigrants, the family pushes on first through Hurricane Andrew and later the 2008 recession, living in a house so cursed that the pet fish launches itself out of its own tank rather than stay. But even as things fall apart, the family remains motivated, often to its own detriment, by what their younger son, Trelawny, calls “the exquisite, racking compulsion to survive.”
