She's baaAAAack! Love this one!
Revisado: 04-10-25
This book reminds me some of JW's early work. The ones I can read and listen to as if I'm having a lovely visit with an old friend. Very interesting and well plotted story line, fantastic narration, funny without being trite, and even though I've never had a sister it was a beautifully moving tale.
Thank you, beloved author, I needed it!
I do adore dual timelines, and this was done perfectly. No confusing time warps, this is the fiction that keeps readers coming back for more!

Summer, 1958. Vivienne Rhodes thinks she’s finally landed her break playing Helen of Troy in Apex Pictures’ big-budget epic, A Thousand Ships, an anticipated blockbuster meant to resurrect the failing studio. Naturally, she’s devastated when she arrives on the remote Italian island of Tavalli and finds herself cast as the secondary character, Cassandra—while her nemesis, the fiancé-stealing Lottie Lawrence, America’s supposed “sweetheart,” is playing the lead role instead.

Historia
Founded by the mysterious genius known as the Designer, the archipelago of Prospera lies hidden from the horrors of a deteriorating outside world. In this island paradise, Prospera’s lucky citizens enjoy long, fulfilling lives until the monitors embedded in their forearms, meant to measure their physical health and psychological well-being, fall below 10 percent. Then they retire themselves, embarking on a ferry ride to the island known as the Nursery, where their failing bodies are renewed, their memories are wiped clean, and they are readied to restart life afresh.

I love Justin Cronin's work. BUT...
Revisado: 05-23-23
The Passage trilogy was absolute perfection, each book better than the one before. Until you go back to book one and realize that is better too! The Ferryman, however, simply couldn't keep me reeled in. It was disjointed and not easy to follow. When I suddenly realized there was basically and entirely new storyline going on, I threw in the towel.
Perhaps it is for a more savvy reader/listener than I, so it may be worth a try for another.

Historia
Brandi Maxwell is living the dream as an intern at prestigious New York fashion house Simon Van Doren. Except “living the dream” looks more like scrubbing puke from couture dresses worn by hard-partying models and putting up with microaggressions from her white colleagues. Still, she can’t help but fangirl over Simon’s it-girl daughter, Taylor. Until one night, at a glamorous Van Doren party, when Brandi overhears something she shouldn’t have, and her fate becomes dangerously intertwined with Taylor’s.

Cringey
Revisado: 12-31-22
I tried to get through to the end but it was so unpleasant that I had to stop. The dialogue seemed juvenile and crass. Story was ridiculous. I like both narrators but even that didn’t help.

Five star rating isn’t enough
Revisado: 08-16-21
I have over 400 titles in my audible account and this novel is in my top three for sure. Rivaled only by my collections of Justin Cronin, Elin Hilderbrand, and Karin Slaughter.
Sequel cannot come fast enough, so please send me an advance copy Ms Dunn?
The characters are well developed, you want to know them, and the story brings you in deeper and deeper. The author tells the story using flashbacks in al the right places to further layer the storyline.
Typically I’m not one to buy a book from an author that doesn’t have other books to review but I am so pleased that I took a chance on this.
The narrator is spectacular, not always easy in such a long book with several characters. I didn’t get confused on which character was being narrated.
Longest review I’ve ever written, but worth my time! Highly recommended!

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Revisado: 07-29-21
Let it first be known that I am not Canadian. Nor have I been blessed with even one lucky drop of Asian blood. Oh, I also don’t know any movie stars.
But this BOOK! Loved every minute. This is so delightful that I long to hang out with these characters because they are funny, smart, fallible, regular peeps! Ever had Spanx go for a ride on your person to places in you without your permission? Yes? Me too! Lots of us have. This is giggle-snort funny because the author and the narrator GET IT. So, get it!
Ps more please!

Revisado: 05-11-21
I couldn’t even get into the book due to the narration. I’ve liked previous books with this narrator very much but this just didn’t work. All of the sentences sounded EXACTLY the same so if you don’t like the audiobook sample, don’t buy it. Its headache-inducing

Better than any recent Grisham
Revisado: 08-11-20
This book is very well written! The story itself is timely and relatable, the narration is top notch.
If you ever liked Grisham, you will love this book!
The protagonist is seduced by the world of being "one of the guys" in an elite law firm. She finds that her indiscretions are not judged the same as the men in the firm. She is then determined to stand up and face the Powers That Be, cleverly tiptoeing around the career destroying landmines that are everywhere she turns.

Funny, witty and warms the heart
Revisado: 08-04-20
Since so many are binge-watching episodes during CoVid, this is a timely release. Very witty and funny with lovable characters, this novel is deeper than I expected. Well written, funny, and on point with human emotion, this is certainly worth a credit!

Love, love LOVE! Could not stop listening!
Revisado: 04-08-19
This book is about families and the disfunction that makes each unique. The cast of characters are lovable and even dislikable, which makes it even better.
There are laugh out loud moments but poignant and heartwarming moments. The storyline is truly solid and woven together beautifully. I immediately searched for more from this author but didn't find any. I'm looking forward to the next gem!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
