Another great one by Rod Dreher
Revisado: 03-22-25
This is another great addition to the re-enchantment conversation that is going on right now. I really (really!) dislike this reader. He’s too emotive. It’s very distracting from the text. Just read; stop trying to impress.

Are extremely annoying. Otherwise it’s the same wonderful story that my children listened to as children. Sharing with my grandchildren now.

Historia
For the past 50 years, Wendell Berry has been helping seekers chart a return to the practice of being creatures. Through his essays, poetry, and fiction, Berry has repeatedly drawn our attention to the ways in which our lives are gifts in a whole economy of gifts. Berry presents us with the sort of coherent vision for the lived moral and spiritual life that we need now. His work helps us remember our givenness and embrace our life as creatures.

The Narrator is extremely ........ frustrating

Lovely book...
Revisado: 04-02-22
But it's a shame that the narrator (also the author) is so wooden and robotic and takes WAY too many pauses between words that it is VERY difficult to listen to. Speeding it up didn't help much; it still sounded odd. Why didn't someone give him some advice to improve his reading-out-loud-voice? This book is about being human but his reading is not human-like. Sad.

Historia
Some people's lives are entirely their own creations. James Rebanks' isn't. He's the first son of a shepherd who was the first son of a shepherd himself; his family have lived and worked in the Lake District of Northern England for generations, further back than recorded history. It's a part of the world known mainly for its romantic descriptions by Wordsworth and the much-loved illustrated children's books of Beatrix Potter. But James' world is quite different. His way of life is ordered by the seasons and the work they demand.

Historia
In this course, Prof. Anthony Esolen will examine ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome and Israel, seeing the disappointment and Messianic longing in the pagan Roman poet Virgil, and the fulfilled Messianic longing among the prophets and the inspired authors of the Old Testament. You will discover the ways in which the fulfillment of the person of Jesus Christ never ceases to surprise mankind, because it never ceases to contradict what fallen man accepts as great.

Great book...narrator is ok
Revisado: 10-24-18
I learned a great deal from this book, but the narrating made it difficult at times. His inflections were off and unnatural (making it hard to understand sometimes), and he wouldn't pause at the right times. He would go from the end of a paragraph/section right on to the next section with no pause at all. He felt in a hurry all the time. Maybe he was told to record in as little time as possible? He also pronounced some things oddly - like Medici. It's MED-i-chee, not Me-DEE-chee. Anyway, it was distracting from a great text.
