Bravo KMM! What an ending!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-21-11

I love this series, but the final book just blew me away! KMM writing style reminds me of a chess player who always thinks dozens of moves ahead to the final winning move. In Shadowfever she crafts her final play by bringing all of her strategic moves made in the series to an amazing, complex and astonishing conclusion. This is Urban Fantasy romance done right. Wow, I loved it!

You will want to read them back-to-back, and you need to start from the beginning of the series with Darkfever. I've read and listened to the series, and couldn't recommend this series enough in the audio format. Some books are made for audio, and this series is one of them.

A cute chick-lit story with a light romance

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-17-10

The story of Savanna (Van) as she comes to terms with all the uncontrollable people and events in her life, and learns to take some control in order to find peace and happiness. A cute story told in first person from Savanna's point-of-view, including a nice light romance and a 100 pound dog too.

The narrater was great too, I'd listen to more by her.

An unforgetable love story

I never thought I would enjoy a Christian romance novel (I prefer the steamy romances), but let me tell you that this book was amazingly good and so much passion! Not preachy at all. In a way, God is simply just another character is this heart wrenching tale. I tried so hard not to cry (especially toward the end) but I finally had to pull over and wipe my eyes when it ended. So much grief, redemption and joy. A fantastic story that drew me in and kept me glued.

It's not a light 'listen', and at times was even depressing. But the writing was so spot on and the characters so real I couldn't stop. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to crawl into the book to talk with Angel, hug Michael, slap his brother, kill a bad guy, shelter a person down on their luck...etc. I can see why it has such high ratings by so many people. And it does end with a great ending. Highly recommended to all romance fans, not just the Christian set.

Fantastic western historical romance

Catherine Anderson really can weave a great story with heart pounding action and a tender passion between two very different people - a Comanche warrior and an innocent young white woman. I really enjoyed this one, and I plan to continue to read more in this series if/when they are re-released.

My only negative was that I wish I had read it instead of listened to it. As much as I love audioboks (have listened to hundreds over the years and am a big advocate on this format) this reader's voice left much to be desired. At times you can hear her swallow and smack her lips, and the voices for Hunter and Loretta were annoying. I usally can seperate story from the readers voice if need be, but this one was a stretch even for me. Sadly, I think I would have enjoyed this more without the narration.

A light historical romance

Revisado: 04-16-09

There was good and bad for me with this one. The narration was great and the ending came together, and I liked Stuart and Verity enough to want to find out how their story ends. But for much of the story we go back and forth through time, which made it a difficult story to listen too. I think this would be a better story in book form as you are less likely to get lost. I rewound a lot to see what date the story was in. It was a cute historical regency romance, but there are some plot twists that I felt was too unbelievable to swallow without rolling my eyes. But this author can write, and despite some big flaws in the story it held my interest to the end. Also, the speaker was fantastic, which helped make this one a good listen.

Mainstream gay romance - wonderful!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-08-08

This book was wonderful, however you should be aware that it will be best enjoyed AFTER reading Hot Target (available here at audible.com) and Force of Nature. Those books can be read out of order of the full series, but for the Jules / Robin romance saga you should think of this book as Part 3 of their story.

Jules and Robin are two favorite secondary gay characters from past books in the Troubleshooters series, and they are so worth getting to know! Brockmann does a great job bringing gay romance (NOT erotica, there are no heavy sex scenes so don't expect porn) to mainstream publishing. There is also a secondary story with Robin's assistant Dolphina and a reporter named Will, which was very enjoyable. And true to Brockmann, there is plenty of laughs, action and suspense!!

My only nay say is that I have to agree with a previous review about some of the dialog, but my issue is that this book has really made Robin overly feminine while Jules remained very alpha. In previous books they were always so equal in strength of character, but now we see Robin at times as a stereotypical emotional gay man. For someone who has just come out of a very deep closet, it didn't always ring true. But overall I did love this book, and I so hope we see more Robin and Jules in future books.

surprisingly well done

A great story that outlines the reality of what could happen when two becomes three. A couple enjoys a summer fling by inviting his best friend and summer house guest into a threesome, but simple is not what you get. Don't buy this book thinking it's a porn-type read. There are some great sensual moments, but the story is much more than just bedroom scenes. It explores the relationship of these three, both past and present, and doesn't try to paint a rosy story that implies threesomes are all fun and games with no risks to those involved. I really enjoyed it.

Simply Unforgettable Audiolibro Por Mary Balogh arte de portada

Great naration, good historical romance

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-30-07

This was a very enjoyable historical romance, and I really wanted to mention how wonderful the narator was. I've listened to over 200 audio books in my life, and I know the narator can make or break the enjoyment. This was very well done!

This was my first Mary Balough book, and I found the story to be a very enjoyable, warm and caring romance story. It's a simple story, not full of mystery or erotica like many popular romances. But I did find it engaging. I plan listen to the rest of her books too!

Very good

The naration was well done, and story was captivating. I love historical romances where the heroine reforms a wickedly bad rake, and this book does it very well. I will happily listen to more books by this author if they become available.

Erotica with a dark and depressing subplot

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-08-07

Think chick lit meets erotica with a small sprinkle of romance. This is not a lighthearted “fun and frolic” romance story, but a deeply erotic story laced with a dark and even depressing sub plot. The story is told strictly through the eyes of El, our heroine. Therefore, she is the only person we really delve deep into knowing. El is an emotionally messed up individual who has a great fear of intimacy. Sex is one thing, but true intimacy is quite another. At times, you will not like El. Guaranteed. But you will care for her and wish her the best. Her history will explain all, which is part of the dark and depressing subplot. Dan, our hero, is a great guy. He is a perfect match for a person who has such emotional issues, and they enjoy the same level of sexual pleasures -- including threesomes. (Tastefully done I might add.) He is willing to give El the emotional space she requests, but over time his love for her challenges them both to re-look at their relationship.

It is an odd mix of stories. The main story is the erotic adventures of El and Dan, but the subplot includes, among other things, sexual abuse. These stories go together like toothpaste and orange juice. Individually I can handle these stories, but woven together it leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. It's not a bad book, but if you are looking for a fun feel good book then be warned there are darker and more depressing subplots that may kill the buzz.
