Historia
In Four Lost Cities, acclaimed science journalist Annalee Newitz takes listeners on an entertaining and mind-bending adventure into the deep history of urban life. Investigating across the centuries and around the world, Newitz explores the rise and fall of four ancient cities, each the center of a sophisticated civilization: the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük in Central Turkey, the Roman vacation town of Pompeii in Italy, the medieval megacity of Angkor in Cambodia, and the indigenous metropolis Cahokia, which stood beside the Mississippi River where East St. Louis is today.

Not bad
Revisado: 07-02-23
Author states that its from a journalist perspective, so for that reason I think it's well done. If it were to be purely historical, I would be more critical. I particularly enjoyed the remarks against Diamond, as that came up in my Anthropology and Archeology classes.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

The content was interesting but it came across a little more pretentious than I would have liked to hear. I don't see myself reading this one again.

The thrilling conclusion to this faraway trilogy. I've read them before, but this was the first time as audio. Wonderfully done, with an awesome reader. This is full of reunions, loss, and love. Absolutely wonderful.

Another absolutely stunning installment in this fantastic series. I can't get enough of them! I've read this over and over as a paperback, but i blew me away as an audio. I think this is my favorite of the series. Nightshade is such an iconic character and I totally loved the feel I got from hearing her parts.
I love how the stories have evolved from the beginning, into the mythology of the culture's religion in his one. These books are so rich in content and the way the authors incorporate characters and lore into them just amazes me. Having them come into vivid reality with audio just makes them all the more enjoyable. Truly incredible works.
The reader for these is simply perfect. His raspy voice and changes for the different voices bring the characters to life.

Set 5,000 years ago and ranging through what is now Montana, Wyoming, northern Colorado, and Utah, People of the Earth follows the migration of the Uto-Aztecan people south out of Canada. It is the unforgettable tale of a woman torn between two peoples and two dreams, of the two men who love her and the third who must have her, and of the vision given to the peoples long ago by the spirit of the wolf.

I'm always enraptured with this series, but hearing it in audio brings it to a whole new level of awareness. I am captivated by the characters and the voice of the reader. Within the first sentences, I'm transported into history and the people become real to me. I am swept up into the malignant mental illness of Brave Man, the gentle love of Still Water, the heartbreak and new love Wind Runner finds, and even the devious scheming of Larkspur.

Riveting
Revisado: 09-13-19
I had just finished this book in my hard copy when it came available on audio, so the story was still fresh in my mind. Despite this, I found the audiobook to be a completely different experience. The intensity was so real, and the emotions of the story reeled me in much harder. I've been a long time fan of this series, but hearing it read was captivating. The reader did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. I found the spanish accent for Two Smokes to be a perfect interpretation, even though reading it on paper multiple times I never caught the part about him having any accent. That was another thing about hearing it in audio vs on paper - I caught things that I hadn't in all the times I've read it. Evidently my listening comprehension is next level above my reading. I never really grasped the part about Hungry Bull being blood related to Little Dancer, and that being why White Calf placed him there when Clear Water was killed. It's all right there in the text, but it wasn't until hearing it aloud that it all came together for me.
The intense emotions and scenes in this well written story brought me to tears in the listening. The final show down between Fire Dancer and Heavy Beaver swept me right up into the flames. I felt every bit of Two Smokes's exhilaration at feeling the One with the Bundle.
Another thing that struck me was my resentment toward Elk Charm in the early parts. I hadn't felt that negativity toward her until hearing it. In the end, all I felt was sympathy for her, and guilt over disliking her. All she did was love him, and advance his bloodline. The strength of my feelings toward her surprised me, because I didn't get that way when I read it myself. Audio of these stories is transformative.

I've read this multiple times, but this was the first time I've listened on audio. This made a huge difference in the story, and totally transported me. The pronunciations I had gotten wrong so many times were wonderful to hear. Loved this.
