Decent story that should have been much more compelling.
Revisado: 10-07-24
Story line, as written, was too predictable. Characters were not developed enough to care about any of them in particular.

Historia
In 1970s Baltimore, 14-year-old Mary Jane loves cooking with her mother, singing in her church choir, and enjoying her family’s subscription to the Broadway Showtunes of the Month record club. Shy, quiet, and bookish, she’s glad when she lands a summer job as a nanny for the daughter of a local doctor. A respectable job, Mary Jane’s mother says. In a respectable house.

Being reminded of the details of life in the 70’s
Revisado: 03-27-24
Young girl, is so relatable. Parents’ judgmental thinking also common for the day. I remember some confusion when I saw that people who were bad or wrong by my parent’s standards were not only not entirely bad, but were actually quite interesting and intelligent.

Historia
This delightful sequel to Webster's Daddy Long-Legs centers on socialite Sallie McBride, who reluctantly agrees to become director of an orphan asylum. The asylum's benefactors, her friends Judy and Jervis Pendleton, insist she is just the person to institute the sweeping reforms the institution needs. The exuberant Sallie soon begins ruffling feathers of the staff, filling the children's lives with hope and love, and locking horns with the new Scotch doctor, the Dear Enemy of the title.

Loved the letter writing
Revisado: 12-28-23
When a story is told through letters, there has been some time to reflect and see the humor in the disasters and add more understanding to the first reactions. These letters are filled with adorable, laugh-out-loud prose. Love to hear her maturing into the job. Reminds me of my own path. In truth, the politically correct speech requirements of our day seem burdensome to many … until they gain more personal experience.

Laugh out loud writing
Revisado: 06-04-23
While at times so funny, also very real story. The family dynamics and character development were superb.
