This is a thorough yet manageable history of Sicily. The author makes 3000 years of history entertaining and not at all overwhelming. The narrator, on the other hand, makes absolutely no attempt to pronounce the names of historical places, figures, and terms correctly; his butchering of terms is grating and very hard to listen to.

The book includes just the right amount of detail for the curious beginner, covering major periods of Sicilian history. My only wish is that the voice actor would have done some research on pronunciations of Italian and Sicilian names and words; he consistently butchers even the simplest of pronunciations. It would seem obvious to most people that you should do that if you're in fact narrating a book about Sicily.

I approached this book with an open mind, but despite having some useful advice on how to live a better life, it seems as if the author is applying tortuous logic to justify the beliefs he learned as part of his Christian upbringing. He implies, in an often angry and overly emphatic tone, that the best way to live a better life is to accept the Christian bible, and that independent thought is somehow necessarily a cause of suffering. I really hoped for some wisdom here, and not the same old dogmas of the past, but unfortunately in that this book fails to deliver.

The Black Swan Audiolibro Por Nassim Nicholas Taleb arte de portada

Drags on and on, unfortunate narration

The idea of the Black Swan is made early and clearly, but fails to materialize as anything more than philosophical musings. One gets the sense the book was written more for the entertainment of the author than the reader.

To make matters worse, Chandler's voice performance is cringe worthy. His unnatural pauses and affected intonation are unbearable, as is his butchering of nearly every foreign word (all spoken with an awkward air of arrogance). This is the first audio book I actually couldn't bring myself to finish.
