Historia
Starring Sherlock Holmes, this tale is based on a real-life ghost story from West Virginia. The basis of the story comes from a court case in the 19th century in which the testimony of a ghost was entered into evidence, leading to the conviction of a murderer. Jonathan Maberry has thrown Holmes and Watson into the mix for added punch.

Pleasantly surprised
Revisado: 01-25-23
I wasn’t sure if I would like this or not but I took a chance and I’m so glad I did. It was great to have a new story about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Especially one that has a little bit of spookiness to it. I think I’ve seen and read most everything there is from, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle regarding Sherlock Holmes. This author seems to really get how to write Sherlock and Dr. Watson. I’m so glad he is continuing on with the stories and bringing Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson back to life.

Historia
Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Great ghost story
Revisado: 08-03-22
This was a great ghost story told in a really interesting way. I have always loved the old Gothic Classics with a good but clean love story. This book was in that style but had a more updated interesting way of telling the story. I really like the characters as well. I have missed that genre and so glad to have discovered this new author. The narrator was great as well!

New favorite author
Revisado: 05-21-21
I am so excited that we have Julie Berry in the world. I am grateful for her stories. They transport me to a magical place that I haven’t been in a long time. The touching addition at the end of the book really made me feel connected to something that, during COVID, I thought I had lost. I am a performing musician and music teacher so I lost a lot as did everyone during Covid. Things are starting to get back to a new normal. This story is so well written and it really inspires imagination. Thank you so much Julie Berry.

Wonderful surprise
Revisado: 05-12-21
I bought this book and the next one during a special event in audible. I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not. The reviews were very good so I took a chance. I’m glad I did.
I am a grown woman but still found this story riveting and heart-warning. To me, it was reminiscent of a Dickens story or E. Nesbit.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an imaginative, magical story that can transport you to fantastical places with wonderful characters.

The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

Very entertaining and scary.
Revisado: 03-22-21
I really enjoyed this book. The character development was more than I have found in a book in awhile. There were certain scenes I found disturbing but the book is horror so.... the thing I did appreciate was that those scenes were short and not drawn out. I did not feel like they were “over-done”. I am very surprised at some of the reviews for this book. I don’t understand why some people today are so hateful regarding other people’s creative works. If you’re reading something and you don’t like it, all you have to do is stop reading it. I enjoyed the ending. And I also enjoyed the historical fiction that was included as a backdrop for a possible reason for the haunting. I was looking for a good haunted house story that was really scary and I feel like this was exactly that. I like a book to have a good final ending and I really feel like this book had that. Though some readers obviously don’t agree with me. But that’s their right. If you’re looking for purely scary entertainment, and aren’t easily offended, I suggest giving it a try.

Historia
Goldengrove’s towers and twisted chimneys rose at the very edge of the peaceful Weald, a stone’s throw from the poisonous marshes and merciless waters of Rye Bay. Young Tabby Palethorp had been running wild there, ever since her mother grew too ill to leave her room. I was the perfect choice to give Tabby a good English education: thoroughly respectable and far too plain to tempt her lonely father, Sir Kit, to indiscretion. I knew better than to trust my new employer with the truth about my past. But knowing better couldn’t stop me from yearning for impossible things.

Great Gothic Romance with a twist
Revisado: 03-02-21
I am so glad I did not pay attention to the first review I read! Or I would have missed a great story!
I could not stop listening to this book. The music in it was beautiful and the narrator was a wonderful storyteller.
It was a combination of all of the things I like in a story. Great characters, interesting storyline which didn’t just automatically go the way I thought it would. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened at the end.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

One of the best books I have read
Revisado: 02-22-21
This book takes me back to another amazing book I read years ago called OverSoul Seven.
As that book was back then so this one is now. A life-changer. This book happened across my screen. I had never heard of it. I have the magical feeling it found me. Thank you so much to the author and to the narrator. What a gift!

This was one of the first books I’ve listened to in awhile that kept me totally interested and entertained to the point of addiction in awhile! Will definitely be listening to Book 2. The narration was perfect! I felt a little like I was being lectured about the greatness of a vegan diet but the story was enough to compensate for that. And it is the author’s right to put something she obviously cares about into her stories. I personally spent some time in my life being a vegan so it wasn’t unfamiliar to me. Great all around experience. Definitely a new favorite author of mine.
