Revisado: 01-27-21
I absolutely enjoyed this story! The entire series has been a blast, and book 3 did not disappoint! I highly recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of Hunger Games, or militaristic dystopians!
Narrator was perfect as always. she managed to capture the mood of each moment.

Not just a bunch of dumb kids...
Revisado: 11-17-20
After reading the first PD, I was interested to see what more Katrina and the gang could do. Where the first book takes place within the confines of the bunker, book 2 takes us to the surface, and that's where it gets wild!
The kids wander, driven by one goal which is to get to Katrina's dads prepper cabin. Along the way, the kids run into rogue mercenaries, good Samaritans that take them in, and more. It's truly an expansion of an already interesting world.
Lark. Let me talk about this kid from book one, without getting too involved with book 2 spoilers. In short, I've never been as angry at a character from a story before. Thats says a lot. Most of the time, the selfish and arrogant troublemakers tend to get "handled" by the close of the story. This kid keeps gaining more and more traction. I can only hope he gets his comeuppance in book 3.
Regarding the writing, there is a huge shift in the writing style in some ways. More expanded and detailed, yet, remains easy to read. Carson does a wonderful job with expanding her world very well.
Carson managed to have the same narrator for consistency, which I can always appreciate. Stacey Glemboski captures the sound and mood of each character, she manages to paint a vivid picture with her voice. A+ for the narrator, whom I'd assume is doing book 3 as well.
Overall: what a book! A post apocalyptic dystopian that doesn't deal with zombies, radioactive monsters, or Eldredge gods wreaking havoc on the world. Instead, its "us." The humans that inhabit it already. Before, during, and after the world is destroyed. That makes for a more telling tale. I highly recommend it for your young adults, or anyone who loves these types of stories.

Historia
Katrina knew this day would come. She had been preparing for it all her life. The end of the world was here, and it looked nothing like she had imagined. Now she was trapped in an underground fallout shelter with a group of teenagers who had been selected as the last hope for humanity. The idea of surviving the nuclear apocalypse alone blurs as she makes friends, and finds love, while buried beneath the earth.

We have to dig!
Revisado: 11-05-20
Let me start by first saying that I usually don't get into post-apocalyptic dystopian disasters, let alone one filled with teenage angst. Carson is a local author and I wanted to give it a whirl.
The story has a great foundation. There is heart, fear, anxiety, and dread all rolled into these words. I went for a heck of a roller coaster ride from the start. In the beginning, we are immediately thrust into a scenario full of panic and confusion. Following our hero as she tries to sort out this new world she's found herself in, we are taken on a journey that feels all to familiar to anyone who's partaken in reading a dystopian book or watching a film: Nuclear Destruction.
The rest of the book is wrought with twists and turns equal to those found within the underground bunker. While battling with traditional teenage angst, relationships, crushes and bullying, we are also thrust into the "grown up" problems faced with any survival shelter. Struggles for power, alliances and distrust are seeded throughout.
NARRATION: The narrator did a phenomenal job! Stacey Glemboski really captured the mood of the entire gang. Her pacing and understanding of various dialogues helped push the story along.
Story: I think the story is a great start. It appears to be the first of many, which usually is the least developed. This happens with all stories as the full idea isn't realized at this point. That's not to say I'm not completely hooked and ready to download book 2 as soon as I can!
I highly recommend this book to anyone with teenage readers, or if you like YA books in general. Forewarning that there is hinting of a negative sexual encounter, which is cleverly prefaced by the author/narrator prior to the chapter beginning. A+ for that.

Let's go on an adventure!
Revisado: 09-16-20
For a young adult novel, this was fun!
Camp Lenape. An ideal escape for children to spend the summer, or so it seemed. Something isn't quite right as kids begin to go missing. Who's involved? Trust no one.
The story is an amazing mystery in the vein of Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew. Marcus, one of the main characters, isn't afraid to break out a flashlight and explore the wilderness surrounding Camp Lenape. Alissa is more reserved, but the gloves were off once one of the girls went missing.
A very well written story that sets up for more adventures. I can't wait to read book two! Timothy Baldwin has knocked it out of the park.
Audiobook version: I did have some issue with the male narrator, David. Occasionally there were some audio quality changes, but nothing major. Brittany brings a very good voice to the table and captures Alissa's point of view well.
Unrelated, I can say adults should not watch "Wet Hot American Summer" before reading this book, because that was the hard visual I had painted in my head, coupled with Baldwins vivid detail of the camp.
Let's go to Lenape High School!

What a ride!
Revisado: 09-11-20
I seldom get into the type of stories that Bloodshot is. Life stories are not my primary interest. I can say I traditionally like my protagonists to be fighting zombies and monsters in a hail of gunfire. Let me tell you firsthand; this story is intense. I was concerned, worried, angry, and easily mirrored the emotions of the cast as the story progressed.
Bloodshot follows Emmett, a man who battles his demons. Hearing his situation unfold makes you angry, yet sympathetic to his position. He recovers from his drug addiction, which is a significant feat for anyone who has ever battled with the same situation.
Baldwin not only manages to take the story into an emotional rollercoaster, but he also makes you give a damn about everyone you read about. Emmet, a religious man but not quite as much as he should be, wrestles with life post-rehabilitation from his drugs. As it says in the book description, his daughter decides to go the route of drugs as well. Baldwin manages to capture the feelings of Emmett as he battles with memories of his reasons for taking this path.
Full of a vast cast of characters, his narrator, John Rodriguez, knocks it out of the park! Well-spoken, crisp, and clear, Rodriguez can capture the intensity of every moment as it unfolds. He seamlessly transitions between each character with ease.
Again, I like "boom boom shoot em up" stories for their intensity. Bloodshot is not one of those, yet, the drama and situation rival any "war book" I could read. I highly recommend this story to anyone!

interesting, and short
Revisado: 10-12-19
the story works to create a new universe without much detail work. we are entered in what I can assume is a dystopian space exploring future, in which our main character is an assassin who essentially is blacklisted.
I'm hoping for more world development going forward. there were also some inconsistencies with the voice actors narration style and quality that removed me from the story. I feel like had I been reading on paper, it may have been easier to follow.
overall, an interesting story, and I'm curious to see where it goes.
