It's half a book.
Revisado: 08-23-20
I suppose it ran too long so they decided to split it into two books, but this book has no climax. I'm very excited for the rest of the story though, it started off really well.

Historia
Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race is trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible - assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

Sanderson at it again
Revisado: 11-15-18
Everything Brandon Sanderson writes is amazing, and Skyward is no exception. You find yourself rooting for Spin, cursing her enemies, and celebrating her victories. Also, crazy AI.

Historia
You've got to be careful when you're chasing a murderer through Bulikov, for the world is not as it should be in that city. When the gods were destroyed and all worship of them banned by the Polis, reality folded; now stairs lead to nowhere, alleyways have become portals to the past, and criminals disappear into thin air. The murder of Dr Efrem Pangyui, the Polis diplomat researching the Continent's past, has begun something, and now whispers of an uprising flutter out from invisible corners.

Historia
Five years ago Corin Cadence's brother entered the Serpent Spire - a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

Good story let down by writing
Revisado: 10-30-17
There is so much in this story that I loved. The Steampunk setting, the magic and challenges. The overall feel was very close to that of some of my favourite anime series. The writing however leaves much to be desired.
There are several instances where the author made basic continuity mistakes (Which should really have been picked up by the editor.) And the main character lacks believability. One moment something will be the most important, most urgent thing in the world, and then he suddenly spends the next ten weeks never thinking or talking about it. And then it is either never mentioned again, or just happens to have been resolved in some magic off page time with so little apparent effort that you are left baffled by why it caused such a ruckus initially.
The main character is revealed to have some severe emotional stunting and does not go through much if any character development during the book, but the other characters are completely two dimensional. They appear out of thin air to act in the scenes with the main character and then disappear again after they have served their purpose.
It has been a very long time since I've read/listened to a book this badly written, and yet I still liked it. And though I hope the author will work on improving his writing and get a better editor, I'm probably still going to get the next book when it comes out.
