Historia
It is the 14th century, and one of the most apocalyptic events in human history is set to occur - the coming of the Black Death. History teaches us that a third of Europe's population was destroyed. But what if the plague had killed 99 percent of the population instead? How would the world have changed? This is a look at the history that could have been - a history that stretches across centuries, a history that sees dynasties and nations rise and crumble, a history that spans horrible famine and magnificent innovation.

KSR is a good world builder, but his stories are sort of boring
Revisado: 05-25-21
As above, I’ve listened to 3 KSR books in the past few months, and they are all similar in that he does very nice world building, but they’re kind of boring. There isn’t much of a plot, just telling a story of a time.

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Surprisingly good book!
Revisado: 12-20-13
Just as other reviewers have said, don't judge this book by the description (or the stupid picture on the cover!). It's actually really good. I haven't had an audiobook that I've been this excited to listen to in quite a while. You won't be disappointed!

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

hated the narrator, then got over it
Revisado: 09-14-12
When this book started, I thought that the narrator was going to kill me. I hated his voice so much that I wanted to stop listening. Gradually, I think that he got better, and I got used to him. By the end of the book, I liked him just fine.
The story is quite engaging, and I have just started the second book. It's not top of my list of recommendations, but if you like the genera of well written fantasy that isn't too out there, this won't disappoint.

Historia
Anthony Powell's universally acclaimed epic encompasses a four-volume panorama of twentieth century London. Hailed by Time as "brilliant literary comedy as well as a brilliant sketch of the times," A Dance to the Music of Time opens just after World War I. Amid the fever of the 1920s and the first chill of the 1930s, Nick Jenkins and his friends confront sex, society, business, and art.

Boring
Revisado: 02-11-11
The other reviews were so positive, I was excited for this title. I also love this narrator. Unfortunately this is incredibly boring. I routinely listen to very long audio books (20-40 hours), and have a good attention span, but I can't make myself go any further with this one. It's the first read dud that I've gotten in my 30 or so Audible purchases. Maybe if you are particularly interested in this time period, and like a very slow story, you'll enjoy it. I'm only half way through, but I think that I'm throwing in the towel.

Listening to this book is entirely enjoyable. A compelling story filled with all sorts of interesting historical details. You will cherish the hours that you spend with this book, and will hate to see it end.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.
