I didn’t like hearing the female narrator swallow spit every second. It took away from the story. The male voices sound so young for these ancient fae with hardly any attractive sound. The voice guy for the Gypsy Blood series would have been perfect for these strong fae males. The current voices make me think of them as weak nerds, that’s how they sound.

It’s not a romance, it’s a tragedy

For two days, I was genuinely frustrated with my book best friend for suggesting this buddy read. This book… what even was this?! It’s not my usual style. I don’t do real-world drama, I avoid sad themes, and teenage drama just isn’t for me.
Yet, I read and listened to this book over two days, and maybe… just maybe, I’d give another book like this a try. But it cannot be centered around teenage students. This one reminded me why I never watched the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. As a high school teacher, my life is already filled with these dynamics—I don’t need it in my reading, too!
So, here’s what I think of the book:
I’d give it a 2.6/5. It’s beautifully written, easy to follow, and yes, it’s long. There’s no big plot twist or thrilling turns because it’s essentially a tragic story of teenage love. The characters are teenagers, so naturally, I couldn’t fully connect. Their lack of confidence, constant self-doubt, and intentional miscommunication drove me a little crazy—I wanted to shout at Autumn and Finny to just talk to each other! Lock them in a room and say, “TALK.” But that’s the adult in me who’s been through enough relationships to know the value of communication. When you know someone is your person, you fight for them.
I wouldn’t personally recommend it, but it’s beautifully written, and I’ll keep it in my library.

The voice was perfect for this story.

I enjoyed this story. It reminded me why I fell in love with reading fantasy. Risheye was a great addition to the cast. Max’s dry humor made me chuckle often.
