Unfortunately bland reading

I very much wanted to like this book but, it was read as though it wasn't her own life. Everything, no matter the topic, was read in a matter-of-fact manner. It also seems disjointed. I understand that individual movies are topics but, it doesn't sound as though an editor was used. It reminds me of a student standing in front of class reading their 'what I did during the summer' essay.

I dislike the character

Eleanor is incredibly grating. I'm trying to finish it because I paid for the book but, it's bad. Really bad. Eleanor isn't remotely likeable and the writing itself sounds like a book report wherein a certain number of words have to be written.

My daughter-in-law's family can over on the Mayflower. I've studied their geneology and read the family history. I'm fascinated by the history of both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A worthwhile listen or read.t

The Trojan War has been waging for nearly a decade, and really erupted when Helen, the wife to Menelaos, was kidnapped and thus launched the "thousand ships" in pursuit of her. This is the reason that the Achaians and the Trojans have been fighting each other for so long. Achilles, who has become hero to the Greeks, is given the present of a slave girl for his excellence in battle.

The only problem with this Audio Book is not the narration but the translation. It is far from the best.. For a great translation read Richard Lattimore's work. He maintains the original meter and cadence of the Attic Greek.

The book has been close to my heart for decades. My first audio copy was on an LP. I also had Thomas' book which I purchased from my college bookstore In the 1960's (A book I still have. If you want to hear Thomas' work be sure to get a copy read by Thomas. Any other reader is an inferior second choice!

The narrator doesn't do a bad job, BUT HE IS NOT DYLAN THOMAS. Only Thomas can give his work a deeper understanding of the wonderful words. Of course in may be Thomas' accent.
