I was surprised at the juvenile theme of the book. It is NOT Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy meets Mad Max. it falls far short of both. I like both the author and narrators other works. This was short of my expectations. I was surprised by the other reviews, which were pretty good. Sorry, that is my opinion and may not agree with yours.

This was a great opportunity for a series. Sadly it was not utilized. I decided on this book, because of the narrator, Chris Lane. His narration work on Odd Billy Todd was epic! It would be a smart decision to continue this book.

It was a good end of the world scenario that turned to hope, so over all, it was a good book. The down side were the too drawn out situations when they were involved with other human groups. The book dragged at times with repeated near starvation situations....over and over again. it was definitely Gray.

First of all the narration was over the top on drama. The story was poorly written and with the overly dramatic narrator, I could only make it it through a hour or two before I just had it!.The only reason the book was 40 hrs. plus is because it was written over and over in describing silly details, in long drawn out explanations. I found myself rolling my eyes wondering how long I could take it. Not worth a credit!

I understand about revelations and end of days stuff but the paranoia slowly rose and it became full blown in this book..Only they are right about the bible and if you don't agree with them, then you are completely wrong. Then the paranoid wacko theories started coming out of nowhere and about nearly every religious entity on earth. How the Templars in the 15th century were in with the devil and then of course they are aligned historically with the Masons, so of course they are devil worshipers too. Guess what...I am a Mason and this book just promotes the same crap that the pope and the French king came up with to defame the Templars because the king owed millions to the Templars. I do not recommend this religious hog wash. I DO REALLY LIKE KEVIN Pierce. HE IS THE BEST READER IN THE BUSINESS. OK----- to be fair, I tried reading this book again 8/12/23 and guess where I started to choke on the crap? It was the same place that stopped me last time. I am a Christian, but the paranoid crap that started oozing forth from Chapter 33 was real hard to swallow. It is full of the worst kind of paranoid theories and is a disservice to Christianity. I am kind of surprised the Kevin could mouth this stuff. I have a great deal of respect for him as one of the best narrators in the business. Could not finish the book. it just kept getting worse and more paranoid as the chapter went on.........

Horrible book and a bad narrator add up to .......wait for it.........a "free" book. And now we know why it was free. Bronson Pinchot should stick to acting on TV. His narration is over the top.....overly dramatic. I hate to say it....but there it is. I could not even finish the books. It was too painful. At least I don't have to ask for a returned credit since it was painfully free.

I found the book to have a very lackluster story line. Ray Porter is an excellent narrator and he was the only thing that kept me going to get through this book. Ray's narration on Dusty's Diary was extremely good and along with a good story line made that book a classic in the post apocalyptic book world! This book was not so much. I would not want to continue the series even with Ray narrating. Too bad......

My first listen to this series was very good. I missed Zed and Murphy and the gang and went back for a second listen and it probably won't be my last. Go for it.....

For some, this would be a very boring and dull subject but if you have any feeling for 18th century history and epic discovery, this is a very good book of French scientists, tasked with learning the shape of the earth and discovery of latitude, along with a dozen other elusive findings such as the speed of sound and all deep in the heart of the mountains, forests and deserts of South American in the early 1700s. If you are a dullard and have no heart for adventure, then you will be bored out of the few wits that you already have.

One reason I chose the book was because of Kevin Pierce as narrator. The book was VERY juvenile and I felt like I was listening to a book for a young teen audience. It was a poorly written book. The only thing that kept me listening was Kevin narrating.. I will NOT be listening to the second book. it was a huge waste of time!
