Historia
From the master of crime fiction comes an unexpectedly whimsical short story about this San Diego surfer whose life plan is working perfectly until he meets a wealthy woman at an art gallery opening (the hors d’oeuvres), falls in love, and then has to masquerade as an upstanding member of society.

Brilliant reading by the incomparable Ed Harris. Sweet and funny story though I did see the “twist” coming. A nice way to kill an hour’s drive.

Historia
LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

Dogs rule
Revisado: 09-12-21
I was so happy when I heard Robert Crais had introduced two new characters, LAPD officer Scott James and Maggie, the ex marine patrol dog now given over to his care. Both have wounds and they help each other heal as the story progresses with Crais’ signature tight pacing and twists. I read this before listening to it and the narration was perfect. Five stars all around and I’m looking forward to more of Scott and Maggie when I listen to The Sentry.

Nonstop tension 😬
Revisado: 09-10-21
Pure Robert Crais - with multiple story lines coming together in a crashing finale, followed by an epilogue of sorts to let you decompress. Truly creepy bad guys, innocent children, mobsters, petty crooks, good cops, bad cops and a sleepy little town. Perfect narration by James Daniels - he’s born to read Crais. Plan on not sleeping for awhile. I loved it.

Goes a mile a minute with the usual nuance between good guys and bad. Excellent narration by Tom Weiner that suits the story to a T.
