Arrogance Overshadows Insights

I listened to most of this book, but within an hour or so of the end, I just couldn’t listen to any more of Bugliosi’s arrogant hindsight dissection of every failing of the Simpson case lawyers. I’m old enough to remember the Manson case, which made Bugliosi famous, and I read Helter Skelter decades ago. While his handling of that case was undoubtedly skillful, and of course he won, I’m sure he wasn’t flawless in that case, and I haven’t heard of subsequent ones he handled that led to comparable fame. And while I’m also sure many, if not most, of his criticisms of the Simpson case lawyers have objective merit, the blowhard, Monday-morning-quarterback tenor of this book just became intolerable. Wish I hadn’t wasted an Audible credit on it.

Moving and inspiring

The book is powerful in a simple and intimate way, and it made my cry, not only for Britney’s struggles and loss, but because those evoked emotions about my own struggles and loss. Huge kudos to Michelle Williams — her voice becomes Britney’s and conveys all the nuance, emotion, and most of all, the indefatigable dignity in Britney’s story.

A classic and an awesome narrator

I first read Exodus more than 40 years ago. Listening to the audio book so many years later was wonderful, and the narrator is phenomenal!

Interesting, but….

I’ve always enjoyed reading MH’s reporting and listening to her thoughtful and articulate commentary on broadcast media. It is not surprising that this book is also meticulously researched and very well written. An added plus is her excellent narration of a story she’s lived for so long. I’m sure it is very interesting work, but also painful, essentially a dirty job that somebody’s got to do. I’m glad she’s been doing it.

Wonderful, enlightening book!

I enjoyed this book as much as any other I have read - fiction or non-fiction! I kept rewinding to make sure I didn’t miss a word. Such a comprehensive, moving, and troubling recounting of our this country’s native people.
