Overall the story was great and the narrator did a great job. Most of his female voices were a little annoying, but you get used to it after a while.

I honestly hesitated to get the this book and the one before because they were so short and I was sure they were going to be subpar. I'm so glad I was wrong. Well done.

I have a love hate relationship with an ending like this, but I'm looking forward to the next

The initial couple of hours didn't exactly snatch my interest, but it was an interesting sort of concept and since I needed a long book to listen to I stuck with it. After a few hours, however, I became engrossed in the story and the mechanics. By the end of the book I was honestly sad it was over.
I recommend giving this book a chance. If you end up like me and the book doesn't immediately grip you, just slog on for a bit and you'll get there. Can't wait to listen to book 2.

I still like the narrator's voice, but I still cannot stand his tone and inflection. Seriously. Does he not believe in editing or something? If you read something badly, edit it out and re-read it. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy!

I love all the skills and world building and pretty much everything. The only issue is that the narrator, Todd Menesses, seems really out of sync with the flow of the story at times. You can sometimes get past it if you're only half paying any kind of attention, but otherwise, it's truly jarring as though someone came up behind you and stepped on the back of your shoe. Don't get me wrong, he does have a storyteller's voice, but his tone and flow just do not mesh with the story. Less bothersome, but still annoying is how he mispronounces a lot of words like "gravitas". I haven't read the actual book, so I don't know if the author misspelled it, but it is not "gravatis". I just feel like he could get with the author about how it's supposed to sound and flow and maybe do some research to find out how to pronounce words.

SPOILER

Okay, so I started this series specifically for this particular book's epilogue. I have read all of the Nightlord series by Garon Whited and loved the scene with Mike and BT so much that I just had to hear it from there side. I am happy to say I have not been disappointed in the least and fully intend to continue with the series now that my primary goal has been realized. Thank you so much for these books. I never thought zombies could be so simultaneously horrifying and fun.

I liked the book. I really did. But I hate, hate, HATE the harem aspect. Look, I'm as hot-blooded as males come, but if I wanted to read a book about harems, I would read a romance novel. This is supposed to be about being kidnapped, stranded, surviving, and the strange IQueue that was implanted into everyone. Instead, it's main theme seems to be an overly horny guy that can't think beyond boobs. (Did this guy never even see a National Geographic magazine before this? Did porn not exist in his timeline?) I really hope book 2 is better or I may not make it through. Like I said, I enjoyed the book. but the harem almost ruined it for me.

If I'm honest, the whole game mechanic was just hard to get into and for a game world, it was pretty dark with very little in the way of loot. Plus, the character interactions just didn't seem genuine. There were also plenty of times when characters in a futuristic world just seemed far too modern day. And the backstory was a little weak as well. They were basically slaves but made to/allowed to play V/R games during downtime? I dunno about that. In all, could use a little work. Maybe don't ignore so many of the details in the next book.

The book was really interesting, though it appeared that some information was skipped at times regarding game mechanics, but also there were things that were simply confusing and had to be listened to several times to glean meaning from. And it seemed it was just assumed readers understood the author's mind. That said, I am enjoying the game mechanics. Also, given that it was originally in another language, I think they did a stellar job. However, the narrator is difficult to get behind at times. there were a couple times when things seemed to flow smoothly, but for much of it they were very monotone, they paused at awkward times in narration, and gave odd inflections to dialogue, they're absolutely awful regarding female voices, and generally made the story more difficult to follow. I mainly muscled through because the story itself was so interesting and I don't generally have the time to read an actual book. There were a couple voices I liked such as Contension and Mose. Given all that, I still intend to listen to the second book and hopefully the narrator has stepped up his game.
