Historia
The ratings and views are off the chart. The fans just can't get enough. The dungeon gets more dangerous each day. But in a grinder designed to chew up and spit out crawlers by the millions, Carl and Princess Donut need to work harder than ever just to survive. They call it the Over City. A sprawling, once-thriving metropolis devastated by a mysterious calamity. But these streets are far from abandoned. An undead circus trawls the ruins. Murdered prostitutes rain from the sky. An ancient spell is finally ready to reveal its dark purpose.

Weaving something big!
Revisado: 02-26-25
Ahhh this one is just as good as the first, none of the magic is lost and something is brewing plot wise. I’m jumping into the next one right away!
To put into perspective how good this is, I put Dexter season 4 on pause to just consume this all day.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Ahh this is so good. If you love listening to RPG podcasts and the culture/ethics of dungeon crawling (ala dungeon meshi) you’ll devour this in 2 days like I did! I’m jumping to the next one right away.
There’s cool fights, intriguing mysteries, and tons of looting. I wish it was a video game!

Historia
They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, to give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened. Everything the girls eat, every moment of their waking day, and everything they’re allowed to talk about is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them.

Narrator is awful…
Revisado: 01-27-25
I have 7 hours left and might DNF just because of the narrator. Overly dramatic in a lot of parts and it completely takes you out of this amazing story.
She randomly slows down and whispers a lot, and instead of this adding to the scene it completely takes away what Grady Hendrix was building up.
They really should redo the recording with another narrator.

Historia
Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. Did he think she was mad?

To Sir Phillip, with manipulation
Revisado: 07-20-24
This has to be the worse Bridgerton story! I’m making my way through the books since s3 wasn’t great. The books have been good and fun so far, some annoyances but these are romance books from the 00s.
Phillip is an a-hole, manipulative of Eloise, explicitly says multiple times he just wants her to be a mom to his kids during the day and a lover at night.
I described the plot to someone and they said it sounds like this was written by an incel.
I made myself finish it, but man this was awful.

Best couple yet!
Revisado: 04-06-24
I love Immortals After Dark, but I do struggle with the MMC always being an alpha hole. This one doesn’t fall to that trope and this is such a healthy couple! He is protective and such, but not to where he ignores the FMC abilities/capabilities. Like this couple communicates, respects each other, etc.
And this story was so good, I’m happy to be back in the world with Robert Petkoff, and I love seeing the overall story continue.
Ahh amazing!

Historia
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful - and cruel - father. Now Scarlett's father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. But this year Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend.

I don’t even know where to start
Revisado: 03-13-24
This was a struggle to get through and I’m considering DNFing with only an hour left. The characters in this have been frustrating, the story was everywhere, and this ending is ridiculous.
Spoilers for an end scene: Scarlet finally finds Tella, her sister, and Tella brushes her off saying she’s crazy/let the game get to her. Keep in mind she hasn’t seen Scarlet since before the game began (because she walked off while Scarlet was being brought to shore) and Scarlet is covered in blood. But nah Tella only cares about a man she met and keeps telling her sister she’s crazy.
And then a bunch of ridiculous, scooby doo-esque/middle school fanfiction villainy happens.
I know this is YA, but if someone says this is good YA then their bar for good books is on the ground.

Good for a book hangover
Revisado: 10-11-23
A good, quick read to help get over a book hangover.
Also reminds me of Thousand Year Old Vampire. Not a bad thing at all, but I wonder if the author wrote a book from a game they played.

Historia
Montserrat has always been overlooked. She’s a talented sound editor, but she’s left out of the boys’ club running the film industry in ’90s Mexico City. And she’s all but invisible to her best friend, Tristán, a charming if faded soap opera star, though she’s been in love with him since childhood. Then Tristán discovers his new neighbor is the cult horror director Abel Urueta, and the legendary auteur claims he can change their lives—even if his tale of a Nazi occultist imbuing magic into highly volatile silver nitrate stock sounds like sheer fantasy.

Old Mexican Power Rangers
Revisado: 09-27-23
The beginning was somewhat slow but it does pay off! This was an entertaining, funny, and a lovecraft-ian style book. This author is a great story teller and I haven’t experienced that in awhile with recent books.
I’m Mexican myself and enjoy lovecraft, but also am put off because he was a racist guy. This kind pokes at that in an entertaining way.
You meet some older characters throughout the story and I just kept picturing them as aged Mexican actors. It was awesome and hence the title of this review.
The narrator was very choppy. To me it felt like someone forced to read in class after being picked up popcorn style.
To my partner, it seemed like someone who just took a Spanish class and wanted to show off the words they can say right.
You get used to it, but it makes the beginning slower because you have to get used to them.
This is my 3rd book by this author and I’m looking forward to listening to more.

Katria swore she'd never fall in love. She's seen what "love" means through the cruelty of her family. So when she's married off to the mysterious Lord Fenwood for a handsome price, all Katria wants is a better life than the one she's leaving. Feelings are off the table. But her new husband makes not falling in love difficult. As their attraction begins to grow, so too do the oddities within her new life: strange rules, screams in the night, and attacks by fae. When she witnesses a ritual not meant for human eyes, Katria finds herself spirited away to the land of Midscape.

Last one of the series for me
Revisado: 09-21-23
Some spoilers in this review…
This was felt way cheesier than the others. FMC was like a version of Tohru from Fruits Basket, very self sacrificing and low confidence. The MMC was basically Tamlin (red flags and all.)
The story was basically a version of Cinderella and ACOTAR mixed together. Down to the FMC going in and saving the kingdom.
