If you are interested in mm romance books, you’ve likely seen that the Vast majority of characters are White men. Particularly, if you look at the covers. I absolutely love the characters that Adriana Herrera creates in all of her books.

Fun, uncomplicated stories
Revisado: 08-14-24
These were fun, uncomplicated stories. I enjoyed listening to them, and it was pretty obvious where each story was going. But, it was enjoyable to see how they got there. The one thing that took me out of the story was in the last book when there was a French character. The narrators French pronunciation was very off.

Good characters and story, ending…meh
Revisado: 11-11-23
I like the characters and places that this author creates, but the endings always seem like an afterthought. Not always a big deal, except when it’s a murder mystery.

Enjoyed the story, then the ending….Ugh
Revisado: 09-16-23
All was good. I like the town and characters and lots of good red herrings. Then, the reveal. Felt thrown together last minute in a few short paragraphs and almost no explanation. I kept waiting for at least one detail. No such luck. I don’t like getting to the end of a mystery and still thinking…..but, why? I’ll try the next in the series to see if it’s better.

Too many characters
Revisado: 07-22-23
I like the idea of the cozy mystery in the small town. The main characters of Robin and Adam are likable. But, there are so many characters swimming around that it’s hard to keep track of them. The other thing that happens is the author changes from using last names to first names so you have to keep a running list of everyone. The end of this particular story felt like it wrapped up too quickly, and had very little to do with the actual murder they were investigating.

Historia
A controversial new property development is planned in Whitstable which will encroach upon the green open space of the downs, to the dismay of Whitstable residents who view this as the thin end of the wedge with regard to local wildlife conservation. Tensions escalate between the developers and Whitstable residents, straining Pearl’s close relationship with London-born police officer DCI Mike McGuire. But the victory is short lived when Pearl discovers a dead body on the downs.

As usual, good story that gets wrapped up quickly in the end.
Revisado: 03-22-23
There’s never a way of knowing who the murderer is in any of these books. That’s fine, since I enjoy spending time with the crowd in Whitstable, and working through the story. But as typically happens in this series of books, there’s a lot of action and lots of red herrings. But, it suddenly gets wrapped up in the end with an explanation that you never saw coming, and there were no clues at all as you were going through. But, as I said, if you enjoy spending time in Whitstable with these interesting characters, read this book. But if you’re looking for clues and figuring out a murder mystery not so much.

Historia
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words discarded or neglected by the dictionary men.

I was expecting more of a language focus
Revisado: 02-02-23
White there is some mention of words that were not admitted and the reasons they were left out of the dictionary, this was mostly a story of a people and family. Not bad, just not what I was expecting. If you’re looking to dig into words, their origins and the linguistic side you will get that fix about 2-3 times an hour when listening to this book.

Great story and characters
Revisado: 11-24-22
I enjoyed the character development and story details. Harding is an incredible narrator as well and this adds a lot to the story and personalities of the individual characters. I’m looking forward to continuing with Mac and Tony and seeing where their story goes in the next books in the series. One slight disappointment…the reasoning behind the crime and how it went down was quick and glossed over, I felt. Maybe a little more wrap-up details would be helpful. I kept waiting for it, but never came. Good all around though.
