I loved the author's voice reading her own work. I really enjoyed hearing about the Mormon history from the women's viewpoint. I'm not Mormon but found it fascinating. well done!

engaging and different
Revisado: 07-27-22
I really enjoyed this book because it wasn't the usual detective or murder novel. While I was frustrated at times with the characters constantly blaming themselves for everything (and maybe that was the intent) I found myself routing for them all along. The culmination was truly a surprise. well done!

surprise ending
Revisado: 06-10-21
the story was different and the main characters well thought out. the ending was a surprise, which makes for a good mystery! the narrator had since strange inflections, like ending sentences at commas. it didn't sound natural.

I loved this book!
Revisado: 02-26-20
this has been one of my favorite books. I am a fan of historical fiction in general, but this poignant story of three young women who lived through the horrors of world war II in Paris told in juxtaposition with their granddaughters, was especially well done. once I got used to the accents I loved the performers depiction of the characters. it tilled into specific issues that I, even as an avid reader of world war II stories, had not experienced. it is a difficult subject, but the read was truly a pleasure.

love this!
Revisado: 10-01-19
This is the first book I've listened to by this author, and is different from most books I read. I just loved the Yorkshire accent of the reader, and was completely intrigued by the geography and culture of the people of the Yorkshire Dales. The story was so interesting and I really didn't guess who did it before it was revealed. a real treat!

In 1944, newly married Copper Reilly arrives in Paris soon after the liberation. While the city celebrates its freedom, she's stuck in the prison of an unhappy marriage. When her husband commits one betrayal too many, Copper demands a separation. Alone in Paris, she finds an unlikely new friend: an obscure, middle-aged designer from the back rooms of a decaying fashion house whose timid nature and reluctance for fame clash with the bold brilliance of his designs. His name is Christian Dior.

I really enjoyed this story of the inside life in Paris during and after wwii. The focus on Christian Dior and the fashion industry was fascinating. I have heard this performer before and her diction and voices are superb.
