Historia
Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At 19, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next 23 years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point.

An amazing and inspiring story
Revisado: 06-04-22
I found this book amazing and I really love Julia through this book. Her mind and tenacity are an inspiration for even those of us who were born and raised in the free and modern world. I would have liked to have read a book like this when I was a teenager. it is a lesson for every woman...and men could learn so much from this book about women too.
For the naysayers out there who claim her life story is a lie are probably people who are trying to knock her back down to her former slave status...how dare a woman want more?. Many religions are structured to keep women down and are so afraid of what they can do once they discover their power. No one is going to keep Julia Haart down. it's a shame that her former community is full of people, male and female, who have no idea about the modern world around them. Very sad and heartbreaking to see so many minds wasted this way.
I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind who loves reading a rags to riches story like Julia Haart's. You go girl!

Both boys are a national treasuee
Revisado: 11-19-21
This book took me back to many memories in my life. I didn't realize how much the Howard family has been in it. There are so many stories I didn't know about and was shocked to hear about Clint's drug issues. So glad he made it out and is well today. The boys' story is heartwarming and provided plenty of conversation in my household. I recommend this version since it is read by both Clint and Ron so you get all the nuance and emotion. I look forward to seeing them do more in film, tv, and books.

Historia
Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Rooting for Tiffany beginning to end
Revisado: 11-12-21
Easy to listen to and you can hear Tiffany's emotion coming through. You really want her to succeed. Even though some parts are rough, she puts a humorous spin on each topic. She is also a great role model for girls and women. I love it that she was so confident in herself she didn't fall for the sexual harrassment in her journey to reach success. It is a feel good story with some bumpy spots along the way.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Dave Grohl - Renaissance man
Revisado: 10-14-21
Dave has led an amazing life and he seems to attribute it to luck. But he is definitely an extraordinary talent who was lucky to have a lot of opportunities come his way plus being sharp enough to recognize them as such. And you cannot say enough about having a supportive parent to give you the tools and genetics to succeed, both musically and as a writer. He was smart to avoid some of the more worrisome pitfalls of rock stardom, namely drugs, but he needs to quit smoking to save his voice for longevity. Not smart on that point!. Loved the book and highly recommend it.

Goodbye Jesus: An Evangelical Preacher’s Journey Beyond Faith

Historia
Goodbye Jesus is the step-by-step account of a former minister’s journey into and out of faith - the story of a long pendulum swing from the deep commitment of a devout believer to the firm conviction that no personal God exists and that all religions are man-made. This is a relatable and thoughtful listen for those seeking to better understand the evangelical mindset, for Christians who are questioning their faith, for ministers trying to decide whether to stay or go, and for those who have left their faith and are dealing with its loss.

interesting view of a mental transformation
Revisado: 06-09-21
I enjoyed this book a great deal as i am always fascinated in how a person is so entrenched in dogma yet able to break free from the slave chains of religion. I would have liked more of the text to focus on his introspection to change rather than so much of the first half of the book talking about his every minute step under religion. An an atheist, that part of the book was not as interesting so I skipped around to hear about some of his experiences in the world randomly, especially those of how atheists can be nice people and do good things that religious people don't, or how religion doesn't make anything better for religious people. But, I found the steps towards his transformation most fascinating once the church kindred turned their back on him. Welcome to my world where the religious are the most hypocritical people existing on the planet. His eyes were finally opened especially once he stopped going to church and his mind was freed...not that it is any better on the outside, mind you. But he discovered the freedom to think on his own and discover a.great big world of facts and science.out there. I recommend this book for people like me who are interested in these types of transformations or, and even moreso, for.people who need guidance and support for leaving their religion. I know many who need a book like this to guide them out of the darkness and into the light. I really feel for these people as I do for Tim Sledge. I appreciate his honesty and applaud his success outside of the church.

Rachel Maddow has beaten the odds in a way that's novel in today's America: She uses her brain. In a world of banal and opinionated soundbites, she regularly crushes Sean Hannity's ratings thanks to her deeply researched reports. And in our highly polarized world, Maddow amiably engages the staunchest conservatives, while never hesitating to expose their light-on-facts defenses.

If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

Revisado: 08-08-20
Loved it. it was humorous and interesting. my sons and husband can't wait to listen to it. Collin has led an interesting and varied life even tho his shortage of common sense puts him into a few predicaments. Cross a South American river in the middle of the night or turn around and drive 3 hours back? Sorry Collin, turn around, don't drown. But it makes for a great story regardless. and it's a great pallet cleanser after listening to Mary Trump's story on DJT.
