That was hard…
Revisado: 08-22-22
I think this was one of those books better read than heard. I got so bogged down in the gamer-speak minutiae, but then important stuff like passage of time, distances traveled, and relative ages of characters was blown off. The silly substitute swear word thing was nothing except repulsive. Dude, just say ‘crap’. Its fine. Using ‘cracker barrel’ as a supposed funny substitution was jarring, and broke the rhythm of the story. I hope the MC is able to level up his speech as well as his skill sets.

Not for everyone

I’m afraid I DNF’d this one. The not using curse words and making up cutesy other ones to replace them was...that was not something I could listen to. Maybe reading it I could handle it better? Once my mind isn’t cringing anymore I will try to give it another go via my Kindle app.

Historia
In this poignant audio piece, Samantha Allen takes listeners along for the wild ride of her own transition: The good, the bad, but mostly, the funny. Because once she began this life-changing journey in earnest, Samantha realized that while the emotional trials of gender dysphoria and self-discovery could be harrowing, there were so many laugh-out-loud moments along this winding road.

Thank you so much for sharing. I loved hearing these words. I may have inappropriately laughed out loud around stuffy fellow travelers while sitting at HJAIA today, several times.

What a great time!
Revisado: 10-05-20
I rarely read books where I like and care about all the main characters and their side characters. But this series has such a fabulous group, I’m totally cheering for them all 100% of the time. Even with the different POV’s I’m not bored or itching to skip forward. Well written, great narration, believable magic and an overall great group of characters. I can’t wait to read more!

Historia
Heaster Wharton is dead, and his passing might mean an end to hostilities between the Manders and the Coys. If the the elderly patriarch showed the kindness and foresight to split his land cleanly between his feuding descendants, then a truce could be arranged. But his final request is a strange one, delivered across the country to the straggling remnants of his tribe. Representatives from both families must visit a cave at the edge of his property in the hills of Kentucky.

Creepy and fun.
Revisado: 01-11-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Those Who Went Remain There Still to be better than the print version?
I think that if I had just read this story it wouldn't have gripped my imagination in such a creepy way, but the narrators bring to life the anger, the stress, and the spine tingling fear of something standing right behind you that really makes this story so much fun to listen to. It is absolutely a story that is meant to be heard!
What other book might you compare Those Who Went Remain There Still to and why?
Ms. Priest has produced a classic ghost story, just with new characters and, wonderfully, a whole new monster! I can happily compare this to the
What about Marc Vietor and Eric Michael Summerer ???s performance did you like?
The work done with the accents that would have been heard at that point of history was a good deal of the reason why I enjoyed this story so much. You get so much more out of the character when you can hear their voice. Both narrators really did excellent work bringing the Daniel Boone character (he said 'barr' for bear, ha!) as well as the later two shades of characters to life, in all their anger and confusion and resentment as well as the wistfulness and fear of men who are being haunted.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I have no idea. That's a lot to put on a person. I loathe tag line pressure.
Any additional comments?
My daughter and I like to listen to this book at night when we're on long distance road trips. At four and a half hours in length, its just long enough that we can listen to the entire thing in one go, which makes the spooky experience much more delightful.

Passionate, earthy, deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution to modern fiction: a vibrant new perspective of female life in the age that shaped present day civilization and values.
If you like The Red Tent, try The Harlot by the Side of the Road, a recounting of some of the most startling and explicit writings from The Old Testament.

Opens a new world
Revisado: 08-11-10
This is one of my favorite books of all time! Ms. Diamant's imagery and tone allows the reader to step into the crowded, noisy homestead of the family of Jacob, son of Issac. The daily life of the earliest of God's chosen people is something that is passed over in the Bible in favor of the larger more dramatic issues that they struggled with, especially as it pertains to the life of the women and children. Bringing to life a fairly small slice of a fairly insignificant story in Genesis (Dinah, Jacob's only daughter is stolen and raped by the Prince of a nearby town), this book opened up - for me - the entire world that existed during the Old Testament. Suddenly my Bible, especially the harder to chew first five books of the OT, came springing to life, relevant and interesting like it never had been before. This book IS a work of fiction, it's not the Bible, but what it did for me was bring me closer to the Bible. Over the past ten years since I first read this book, I have read and collected more theological texts than I would have thought possible! Raised by adamantly non-practicing Jehovah's witnesses, I count this book as the key that led me to my faith. My relationship with God was immediately and permanently strengthened by reading this book, and then going back and reading my Bible with new eyes. I also view my relationships with my female family and friends differently, and have given this book as a gift to several of them.
