Historia
Written by G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy addresses foremost one main problem: How can we contrive to be at once astonished at the world and yet at home in it? Chesterton writes, "I wish to set forth my faith as particularly answering this double spiritual need, the need for that mixture of the familiar and the unfamiliar which Christendom has rightly named romance."

Classic of Apologetics, Still Relevant Today
Revisado: 01-26-22
Chesterton's trains of reasoning are harder to follow than the more well-read CS Lewis, not because they are inferior but because of how he tends to be more (as he would put it) "poetical." For some people this might be a fault, but I find I can listen over and over and it feels like an adventure every time. Great reading by the narrator.

Historia
During the first three decades of the 20th century, eugenics, the scientific control of human breeding, was a popular cause within enlightened and progressive segments of the English-speaking world. This prophetic volume counters the intellectual nihilism of Nietzsche, while simultaneously rebuking Western notions of progress - biological or otherwise. Chesterton expands his criticism of eugenics into what he calls "a more general criticism of the modern craze for scientific officialism and strict social organization."

Surprisingly Relevant
Revisado: 01-20-22
Although Chesterton is riddled with some of the flaws of his time - especially in his perspective on other races - in most other respects he is filled with wisdom and addresses a philosophy which still threatens us today. Great performance as well.

Historia
The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien’s world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part.

Rich Mythology
Revisado: 11-14-21
This is not the Lord of the Rings - the style is closer to something like the historical narratives in the Bible - but the depth and beauty of the mythology Tolkien crafts is worth immersing yourself in. A few parts are a little dry and so listening via Audible does help.

Historia
There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

terrible and wonderful
Revisado: 07-02-21
depressing but deeply moving, the most complete of any of the stories from the elder days that preceded LOTR. worth reading if you want more Tolkien - but be ready - it's not a happy story. Christopher Lee is amazing as narrator
