It was January 2021, and Rick Deckard had a license to kill. Somewhere among the hordes of humans out there lurked several rogue androids. Deckard's assignment: find them and then..."retire" them. Trouble was, the androids all looked exactly like humans, and they didn't want to be found!

Nothing wrong ... with the ....... performance ...
Revisado: 03-07-16
.... as long as you like ............... long pauses ........... for no reason .............
There were many times that I would grab my phone because I thought the audiobook had paused for some reason. If you want to read this book, just read it. Don't listen to it. I kept wanting to pat the narrator on the head and tell him that everything would be ok, too. Such a depressing read and he was living it.

Historia
The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In the third book in the series, James McGill is deployed on another alien world. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he’s headed to an advanced world.

Story line at this point starts to fade
Revisado: 11-23-15
I'm still a big fan of the series, and will continue to listen to the books as they are made available. However, this book felt out of place with the others. I guess it's a good change of pace, but there's not much compelling that makes you want to keep coming back like the others.
Performance is still outstanding, so that won't leave you wanting.
Don't skip this one in the series, though. New characters are introduced here that you'll want to get to know before moving on

Martin Short takes you on a rich, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking ride through his life and times, from his early years in Toronto as a member of the fabled improvisational troupe Second City to the all-American comic big time of Saturday Night Live and memorable roles in movies such as ¡Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride.

Maybe my expectations were too high
Revisado: 11-23-15
I had high hopes going into this one. I mean, it's Martin Short reading his own biography. Aside from the occasional deep insights and funny story, this book is fairly dry. You walk away knowing about Martin Short's life, but don't walk away with the stories and humor that I was expecting from one of my favorite comedians. It pains me to rate it so low, but I would probably pass on this one if I hadn't already listened to it.

Historia
Even when finding oneself engaged in interstellar war, good form must be observed. Our story is set thousands of years after the Terran Exodus, where two powerful, planet-dominating families - the elegant House Jakabitus and the less refined Hahn Empire - have reached a critical point in their generations-long war. Master Hennik, the Hahn ruler's only son, has been captured, and the disposition of his internment may represent a last and welcome chance for peace.

Tedium
Revisado: 08-27-15
I tried to let this book have a chance. It is Scott Meyer after all, and Magic 2.0 was fantastic. Luke Daniels give the same amazing performance, but the material was just tedious at best. I really didn't care about any of the characters, and once the plot FINALLY got going, it wasn't worth completing. I got about half-way though and honestly don't care how it ended. I'd recommend skipping this one. Go check out the Scott Meyer's Magic 2.0 series (Off the be the Wizard) if you haven't done that yet.

Historia
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Interesting concept
Revisado: 07-21-15
It was a fun easy listen, but I wouldn't call it groundbreaking. Still, I'm excited to move onto the next book. It is an interesting take on contact with aliens and how that may play out. It was nice to see a fresh take other than just everything out there being savage.
Performance was very good. Kept me engaged in the dialogue, and the many characters were distinct. I always knew who was talking even before it was qualified by the author.

The conclusion of the Mistborn trilogy fulfills all the promise of the first two books. Revelations abound, connections rooted in early chapters of the series click into place, and surprises, as satisfying as they are stunning, blossom like fireworks to dazzle and delight. It all leads up to a finale unmatched for originality and audacity that will leave listeners shaking their heads in wonder, as if awaking from an amazing dream.

A fitting ending to the series!
Revisado: 07-11-15
I thoroughly enjoyed getting through this last book. The performance was right on par with the last 2,and the characters remained consistent and recognizable throughout.
My only complaint is about Brandon's tendency to drag out his own exposition, making sure that you understand much much more about what is going on than you need to. This probably added 2 hours of listening time that could have been cut without consequence.
Still, worth a listen.

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Non original storyline with passionate exposition
Revisado: 06-25-15
I was interested for a good whole in the premise and overall story, but that quickly faded away when our main character discovers a romantic interest. Every other chapter at least from that point forward is exposition about how their kisses and touch feel against each other. Its technically PG rated, I guess, but lost my interest in the rest of the story. I won't be continuing the series.

The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Brilliant parallel addition to 14
Revisado: 06-23-15
Whatever you do, don't read reviews about this book. Grab 14, listen to that and then grab this one right after. Do not read anything about this book on reviews at all unless you like spoilers. Soooooooooo glad I picked this one up because I liked 14 and didn't read a review first.
Performance is spot on. Couldn't stop listening to it.
Story is engaging and has enough quirks and twists to keep you interested until the end.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Amazing story and preformance
Revisado: 06-19-15
This is a great story with unexpected and at times predictable twists that are quite ok. It's like a book version of a classic puzzle game. Fun characters and a good mystery.
The performance by Ray Porter is brilliant! He brings the characters to life. Incidentally, the way he personifies the main character mixed with the provided dialogue makes him sound like Guybrush Threepwood. Fun.
I'm definitely adding these two to my list to watch for further stories and books.

Great fork from book 1 to continue story
Revisado: 06-09-15
Best part about book 2 of this series is it's not just a continuation of the first book. It's a completely different slant at the possible future that was established in book 1. For that, applause, applause.
The performance is outstanding. The only piece that I would dock here is that there is a cadence that unfortunately drops into during listening to the book. John writes:
"blah, blah, blah" Jane said
"blah, blah" Joe said
"blah, blah, blah" Jane said ... etc
During intense back and forth it's hard to not notice the "Jane saids" over and over again. Would have been nice if Scalzi had consulted a thesaurus or an editor for other ideas other than "Jane said". It pulled me out of the story numerous times.
I enjoyed it, and am moving quickly to book 3. 4 stars.
