Historia
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

If you’re experiencing or suspect you are experiencing this, she will read your mind in ways you may not be ready for, but likely need. I know I did. The amount of confusing emotions and thoughts I’ve been going through are nearly all laid out here. I’ve felt very lost and it’s nice (as much as it can be) to not feel so alone in the struggle anymore. And that, by itself, has tremendous value.

Passable space romp
Revisado: 02-24-24
It’s fine. First book sets up a decent premise. Lots of the elements and situations will be familiar to anyone that regularly listens to sci-fi. It’s not original in any way, but it’s mildly fun and the voice acting is quite good which helps. The second book kind of drags while awkwardly setting up future books. The near invincibility of the hero is fun at first but over time removes any sense of danger making the conflicts more of a waiting game for the new power move (they suddenly discover!) to start.
That said, if you need something relatively entertaining but ultimately mindless to fill some time in while doing something else, you likely won’t be disappointed.

Fun and light
Revisado: 11-30-23
I think my favorite part of any Pratchett book is just how light and fun they are. So much of life these days can be heavy and overwhelming. It’s a true joy to escape all that for a short while and lose yourself in ridiculous adventures and goofy puns. It also helps that it’s written and performed quite well.

Historia
As polyamory continues to make its way into the mainstream, more and more people are exploring consensual nonmonogamy in the hope of experiencing more love, connection, sex, freedom and support. While for many, the move expands personal horizons, for others, the transition can be challenging, leaving them blindsided and overwhelmed. Beyond the initial transition to nonmonogamy, many struggle with the root issues beneath the symptoms of broken agreements, communication challenges, increased fighting and persistent jealousy.

Incredibly helpful
Revisado: 11-16-23
We recently began our poly journey after a couple years in the lifestyle. There are far more obstacles and land mines than we expected. If nothing else, this book helped me to feel less alone and helped me feel like there is at least some light while we stumbled around in the dark. The concepts and techniques have been immensely helpful and useful while we navigate the emotional hurricane that is polyamory.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Cute and fun little escapist romp
Revisado: 10-03-23
Very fun little romp with giant monsters in a fairly well thought out world with just enough goofy science words to make you almost believe it. It’s fairly short and never takes itself too seriously. If you’re a fan of Kaiju even a little, this one is for you.
Side note: the narration is occasionally off-putting as he seems to be laughing through parts of it, but 90% of it is just fine. That said, everyone is a critic these days. Lol.

Solid story. Solid acting.
Revisado: 02-17-23
This guy has quite a range of voices. Some are very obvious impressions but they’re good ones. Though, if I had to make one criticism, trying to picture blue skinned, glowing eyed characters with some of the voices was a challenge. Overall solid back story on Thrawn, but I can’t say it’s a good introduction to him. It helps if you know who he is up front. By now, you should, so it’s all good.

Narrator is gratingly bad
Revisado: 08-31-22
Can’t speak to the quality of the story on this one. I couldn’t make it through more than about an hour of this title. The narration is nasally and irritating. His voices are either condescending or annoying. I’m sorry to say this, but this guy should have stopped reading out loud in 1941. I agree with another reviewer that he would be more suited for pulp fiction noir, but honestly I don’t think I could listen to that either.
It doesn’t help that the first section of this book is terribly boring.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Wow. Just so good.
Revisado: 08-19-22
I’ve always been a fan of sci-fi, but I admit, I’ve never listened to ‘science’ fiction before. The math and sciencey bits can get heavy at times, but it just adds to the complexity of the characters and situations. It was refreshing to listen to something so continuously positive. The last few sentences made me tear up. Absolutely fantastic. I will say though, if you’re not at least a little nerdy, it may not be your flavor. If you are though, even a little, you will not be disappointed.

Historia
You are now leaving the age of Aquarius please lower your seat when rising from your head. It was something to do with the cycles of history. The way great civilizations rise and fall. Golden ages and dark ages. Things of that nature.Few people noticed at first. The changes. They were subtle to begin with. Like when the Leader of the Opposition challenged the PM to step outside and settle things man to man. And the PM agreed. Or the way the baked ham rose up against Dave while he was standing in the check-out queue at Budgens. Small things. But they just kept getting bigger. And by the time everyone realized that something very strange was going on, it was all too late. The Earth had left behind the age of science and reason and moved once more into a time of myth. A time of legend and heroes. Of romance and wizardry and wonder. It was a time to take the mother of all giant leaps and enter -The Garden of Unearthly Delights

Hilarious
Revisado: 09-01-21
Rankin’s word play and bone dry humor is absolutely great. It’s all very British, so if you don’t go for that sort of thing, go for something else. Personally, this story had me belly laughing more than once. Absolutely goofy and completely pointless, this story was the wonderful escape I needed. If you’re looking for break from more serious titles, or just a breathe of much needed fresh air from the global dumpster fire, this is it.

Revisado: 07-07-21
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this series so far. It was recommended to me by a friend recently and I can’t stop binging it. The writing is perfectly done, the world building is second to none and the narration is perfect. All I can say is the reviewers that complain about the female narrator and Shalon’s journey are simply wrong. If you’ve made it to this book, you already know it’s great. And it is. Be good.
