Historia
In How to Write Short , Roy Peter Clark turns his attention to the art of painting a thousand pictures with just a few words. Short forms of writing have always existed - from ship logs and telegrams to prayers and haikus. But in this ever-changing Internet age, short-form writing has become an essential skill. Clark covers how to write effective and powerful titles, headlines, essays, sales pitches, Tweets, letters, and even self-descriptions for online dating services.

Excuse for a book
Revisado: 06-11-19
This is not a book about asking better questions.
Admittedly I did not listen to the entire book and I have never listened to (or read) a Maxwell book. This book was worthless. "I ask a lot of questions .... Let me read you quotes from other famous people who had interesting things to say about asking questions .... One time my dad ask me what I wanted to do with my life, and it made me who I am today .... A couple of friends ask me to go into business with them, and I am so happy I said yes."
I hope his other books have actual substance, but this book was pablum, disguised as wisdom.

Historia
The city of Ember was built as a last refuge for the human race. Two hundred years later, the great lamps that light the city are beginning to flicker. When Lina finds part of an ancient message, she's sure it holds a secret that will save the city. She and her friend Doon must decipher the message before the lights go out on Ember forever! This stunning debut novel offers refreshingly clear writing and fascinating, original characters.

Historia
Thanks to his relationship with the ancient Druid Atticus O'Sullivan, Oberon the Irish wolfhound knows trouble when he smells it - and furthermore, he knows he can handle it. When he discovers that a prizewinning poodle has been abducted in Eugene, Oregon, he learns that it's part of a rash of hound abductions all over the Pacific Northwest. Since the police aren't too worried about dogs they assume have run away, Oberon knows it's up to him to track down those hounds and reunite them with their humans. For justice! And gravy!

Maybe the Best Yet
Revisado: 11-03-16
Where does The Purloined Poodle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Of the books in the series, this is one of the best. I would even say I enjoyed more than all the others except that you need the other stories to really fall in love with Oberon. I hope for more like this and there had better be a story around that treasure map.
Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?
I am tempted to listen to every story he has narrated

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Would you listen to The Martian again? Why?
I loved to root for Mark Watney. It is great story about what can be the best parts of being human. There was an air of authenticity ... it reminded me of the story of the Endurance.
The narrator was a perfect fit. He made me feel like I was right in the middle of the story.
I have been telling people about this book since I started listening to it ... and I can't wait for the movie.

Historia
Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Any additional comments?
I have listened to "Made to Stick" several times and find something new each time. "Switch" is ever better. The ideas in this book have helped me identify where the problems are that interfere with the change.
I had a meeting a week later. It would have been very easy for all of us to get focused on the why things aren't working. I suggested that we look for the "Bright Spots" and find out where things are working and figure out what they are doing right. Before we were done with breakfast, a couple of my guys were referring to the "Bright Spot Strategy." We are not there yet, but the Bright Spots became a part of our long range plan.
Last week, my boss introduced a new plan that was met with resistance from many of us. Switch helped me figure out if the problem was with the "Rider," the "Elephant," or the "Path." It is a Path problem and now maybe I can quietly give him some ideas on how to shape it.

Historia
In The Black Swan Taleb outlined a problem, and in Antifragile he offers a definitive solution: how to gain from disorder and chaos while being protected from fragilities and adverse events. For what Taleb calls the "antifragile" is actually beyond the robust, because it benefits from shocks, uncertainty, and stressors, just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension. The antifragile needs disorder in order to survive and flourish. Taleb stands uncertainty on its head, making it desirable, even necessary, and proposes that things be built in an antifragile manner.

Cool idea but it made my head hurt
Revisado: 10-08-13
Any additional comments?
I love Taleb’s idea of Antifragile. Embrace systems that will thrive in random events which would damage fragile ones. Taleb is clearly well educated in a variety subjects; I love his talent for finding the patterns of ideas shared by mythology, business, architecture, biology, mathematics, etc. I also enjoyed learning some new $50 words (e.g. “iatrogenics”).
However, I am giving the Story a score of two because Taleb’s cool idea does not overcome his desperate need for an Editor … and if he had an Editor for this one, then he should have taken that Editor’s advice. This book is a train wreck of engaging ideas tangled in a run-on sentence of satirical, back-handed shots at his critics (i.e. “so called experts”). An Editor could help him distill out his great ideas and insights from this chaff of insults that he should save for his blog.
I am giving the narrator Joe Ochman five stars for his Performance. He did an amazing job of capturing Taleb’s insulting, sometimes whiny, and slightly arrogant tone that flavored the text … at least the first half (I couldn’t take it anymore and gave up in the second part of the book).
