Historia
After the explosive events surrounding MPF6's destruction on Karkin Four, Wic and his team of daredevil operators join forces with the rebel force known as the Blood Guard. While the Phantoms desire to help relocate human refugees to safer worlds, they're forced to confront a more pressing objective: cut off the head of the beast and keep the Androchidan Empire from enslaving another world. Wic is immediately flung into the heat of battle, driven by retaliation, a need for justice, and the need to send a message to all other deviant species who'd wish to take advantage of the innocent.

Great action and adventure!
Revisado: 04-15-25
l really enjoy this series as it is masterfully written and performed very well. My only complaint is the same complaint I have with most modern science fiction. Why does every science fiction story in the modern day feature women lecturing men about how to be men? Additionally, regardless of gender, no one of lesser rank lectures their commanders on any topic. For some reason it's become popular for female soldiers to set their Commander straight on things. That's a bridge too far. As former military I take umbrage with that the same as I would take umbrage with a male lecturing a female Superior officer. That said, so often the women come across as jerks. I know some disagree but this is my opinion.

It was almost okay-ish.
Revisado: 04-10-25
The only thing fantastic thing about this book was the very talented voice actor that performed it. This could have been a good story but it was not. I had the entire plot figured out less than 2 hours into the book. While the story does have some sciency stuff in it, it's pretty much the Black Knight satellite meets Earth girl. the author gets super preachy about politics and religious views in such a way that if you do not agree then you are obviously a primitive stupid human. I don't like to use the term but in this case I will make an exception in saying that the book was woke as a joke! the political rants and demonization of religious beliefs in general ruined it. the only reason I finished it is it cost me a credit and I had a long car drive, otherwise I would not have made it more then a few chapters.

Historia
The planet of Kiln is where the tyrannical Mandate keeps its prison colony, and for inmates, the journey there is always a one-way trip. One such prisoner is Professor Arton Daghdev, xeno-ecologist and political dissident. Soon after arrival, he discovers that Kiln has a secret. Humanity is not the first intelligent life to set foot there. In the midst of a ravenous, chaotic ecosystem are the ruins of a civilization, but who were the vanished builders and where did they go?

great story but grammatically awkward at times.
Revisado: 01-28-25
The story is quite good and engaging. However, the grammatically awkward and unnecessary use of they/them pronouns make the story more difficult to follow and interrupt the flow of the narrative. Nothing is added to the story as a result of their use other than it checks a box to show the apparent enlightenment of the author.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Good, but can get on your nerves.
Revisado: 12-09-24
the performance is fantastic and the storyline is very solid. great character development and exciting scenes and vivid world building. the main detractor is the verbal abuse dished out by the artificial intelligence. sometimes it's funny but there are times when it is just cruel and mean. I found myself getting very upset at the verbal berating the artificial intelligence heaped on people. it really started to grate on my nerves to the point I will not finish the series and I'm seven books in. it just seems to get worse and worse. very unfortunate because it ruined what I thought could have been a great story.

With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

great story idea but the delivery fell flat
Revisado: 10-04-24
I've read several books in this series and I was looking forward to this one, however, this is my least favorite. At various points in the narrative when the author is getting ready to reveal some juicy information or revelation he overbuilds the delivery. By the time he spills it the reader is so frustrated that it lacks the impact it could have had. I found myself thinking, " Get to the point already!" The other aspect of the story I did not like is that the vast majority of the narrative had very little to do with first contact as most of the story was just a traveling adventure. it seemed as though the book had more to do with first contact among various cultures of humanity than with otherworldly beings. Perhaps that's what the author intended but it was a letdown. I feel as though I could have listened to the first hour or so of the book until the artifact is found and then skipped to the last 2 hours and saved quite a bit of time. the other books in this series are great, this one, not so much.

Historia
Freeman is a genius with an uncommon mixture of memory, intelligence and creativity. He lives in a worldwide utopia, but it was not always so. There was a time known as the Grind—when Freeman’s people lived as slaves to another race referred to simply as “Master.” They were property. But a civil rights movement emerged. Change seemed near, but the Masters refused to bend. Instead, they declared war. And lost. Now, the freed world is threatened by a virus, spread through bites, sweeping through the population.
