Historia
As Adolph Hitler rose to power in 1930s Germany, a growing wave of fascism began to take root on American soil. Nazi activists started to gather in major American cities, and by 1933, there were more than one hundred anti-Semitic groups operating openly in the United States. Few Americans dared to speak out or fight back—until an organized resistance of notorious mobsters waged their own personal war against the Nazis in their midst. Gangland-style.

Little Known Chapter of Late-1930s America
Revisado: 02-09-23
This is a very entertaining history of pre-WW II America. I had heard about Luciano's contribution to the fight against Mussolini's fascist in Italy, but I had not heard of the Jewish racketeers struggle against the Nazi sympathizers. There may be a bit of larger than life exploits in the telling, but over all a really good listen

Historia
The Dacian kingdom and Rome are at peace, but no one thinks that it will last. Sent to command an isolated fort beyond the Danube, centurion Flavius Ferox can sense that war is coming but also knows that enemies may be closer to home. Many of the Brigantes under his command are former rebels and convicts, as likely to kill him as obey an order. And then there is Hadrian, the emperor's cousin, and a man with plans of his own.

Revisado: 04-26-20
don't know why I missed a great one! I have followed the Slough House series and really enjoyed them. So I was really excited when I found this and three other Mick Herron novels on Audible. The plot is sharp and the story plays out smoothly. Narration was great. Looking forward to more in the future

Proves the Old Adage ....
Revisado: 12-29-19
There is a reason we have two ears and one mouth.
This is a well balanced review of what ails the American community today. We do not listen to one another and we allow elected officials and politicians to work for the own advantage at the expense of the general citizenry. It does not matter which political party has the advantage, they both put themselves first before their constituents

Historia
This insightful look at the life of Henry V and the Battle of Agincourt casts new light on a period in history often held up as legend. A great English hero, Henry V was lionized by Shakespeare and revered by his countrymen for his religious commitment, his sense of justice, and his military victories. Here, noted historian and biographer Ian Mortimer takes a look at the man behind the legend and offers a clear, historically accurate, and realistic representation of a ruler who was all too human.

I Almost Passed It Up
Revisado: 04-14-19
I have a rule that I apply when purchasing a book - if I can use it as a door stop then it is too long to keep my interest. Initially, I steered clear of Mortimer's history of Henry V. It just seemed too long. However, the subject interested me immensely, so I gave it a go and I was glad I did.
Mortimer's day-by-day approach to the early period of Henry's reign was brilliant. It provided a rare insight of the steps leading up to war with France and a background on the king. It keep my interest from beginning to end. I will have to look into other works by this author.

Well Worth the Wait
Revisado: 01-21-19
I had first noticed the hardcover edition of this book at least six months ago and was so hoping it would come out in audio version that I even contact the author. Unfortunately, he did not yet know at that time what was the status of the audiobook.
Fortunately it came out and although I had several other books in the cue, I downloaded the book and away we went.
What sets this historical novel apart from others in the same genre is the author is a historian on Roman history. If you have not listened to his histories, I strongly recommend them. This is a story of a Roman centurion set in Roman Britain, plain and simple, his heroism, ingenuity and mastery of arms. The realism comes through and it is very enjoyable.
Unfortunately, now starts the long wait for the next installment.

Historia
Viggo Hansen was a man nobody ever noticed, even though he lived in the midst of a close-knit community. His death doesn't hit the headlines, but there is something about the case that catches the attention of William Wisting's journalist daughter, Line, and she decides to write a newspaper article with a different twist for the festive season: the portrait of a completely anonymous and obscure person whose death goes unremarked and unmourned.

Another Great Mystery
Revisado: 08-06-18
I have to admit that I do not get very much done when I start listening to another Wisting series mystery. This one was not exception to that rule. The Caveman has more twist and turns than a plate of curly fries and no sooner do you think you know who did it, you find out you were wrong. Saul Reichlin's narration is exceptional.
My only problem with the series is that I only have one more remaining. Hopefully, there will be a audio version of the author's new book "The Katharina Code" in a series called "The Cold Case Quartet" due out in the UK in December

Historia
Interweaving a grand historical narrative with cutting-edge climate science and genetic discoveries, Kyle Harper traces how the fate of Rome was decided not just by emperors, soldiers, and barbarians but also by volcanic eruptions, solar cycles, climate instability, and devastating viruses and bacteria. He takes listeners from Rome's pinnacle in the second century, when the empire seemed an invincible superpower, to its unraveling by the seventh century, when Rome was politically fragmented and materially depleted.

I was hoping for some new insight behind the decline of Rome. However, this was not what I envisioned. The narrator at time was extremely flat and overall the book was just boring
