Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Dragons, adventure, and overcoming the odds
Revisado: 02-17-24
The story is not new: the under dog overcoming the odds to become the hero, but the story is well written, and the characters are interesting. I read one review that didn't like the narrator, but they are so wrong! She does have a strong midwest accent, and the first time I heard her, it was a little jarring. But she gives really great performances, and yuo get used to her accent quickly.
The only thing I didn't like about the book is the explicit sex scenes. Personally, I don't want to read about/ listen to, people having sex. Do it yourself, or read a good book! 'Fifty Shades of Gray' says i'm in the minority on that, and at least you can fast forward through it.
Otherwise, I highly recommend, if you like fantasy fiction. I'll be buying the next one!

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 04-23-23
The story on this one is a little beyond farfetched, which is a little disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s that, or the narration on this feels overly melodramatic and pompous. The narrator has a lovely voice, and I enjoyed the previous books. But not sure I’ll listen to the rest- I might read them the old fashioned way.

Read like a bedtime story
Revisado: 09-04-21
I hate to leave bad reviews because I know how much hard work goes into recording a book, but I bought this because it had good reviews, and now I'm returning it, an hour in. So far the story is fine, and I almost kept it, but I just couldn't get past the fact that it sounds like a babysitter reading a bedtime story. It's rushed, and there is very little differentiation of character. Very little emotion. The narrator's voice is pleasant, and I'm sure a child would love listening to her read, but I expect more from an audio book.

Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

The history of the oil industry isn’t really known- we know it’s not good for the environment, but WOW! This book breaks it down. We should all be aware of the details behind this industry!

Don’t recommend for adults
Revisado: 05-29-19
This was an ok book: it felt a bit teenage angsty for me, though. Particularly the bisexual element, which didn’t seem integral to the story. I’ve read the Twilight saga, and enjoyed that more. It had more character development and with this book, given the title, I felt the story was a bit thin. It wasn’t awful, just not great.

Historia
Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but longstanding enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

Really only for kids
Revisado: 10-22-18
I bought the 1st in the series, and as previous reviews said, it was very slow getting going (and the way it's read is verrry slow, but apparently that's the way the author wants it performed). But it was good enough that I wanted to find out what happened next.
Unfortunately, the 2nd installment is incredibly cliche, and really only suitable for kids. Much of what happens is utterly implausible - and yes, I recognize that this is a fantasy world, but it seems a few people in this one small group invent everything useful in the world today, by accident. The characters are simplistic and the action predictable. There was enough in it to listen to the end, but I don't care enough to find out what happens - well, I would if it were written with a little more sophistication. Sorry to be so brutal, but I found the 2nd installment very disappointing.

In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within. Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. Does what it says on the tin
Revisado: 06-12-18
Some of the previous reviews said the title was tougher than the book, and it was misleading - I don't know what they were talking about. I really loved her practical, down-to-earth approach. None of it was really new, but so easy to hear and be inspired by. I loved it and am sharing with people who aren't big on self-help books, because it's true to self, and introspective, but not too esoteric. Listen and let it inspire you to be great!

Unusual perspective
Revisado: 10-08-17
It took a little while to get into this book- I kept waiting for something to happen. But when I got used to the style, I enjoyed it. Orms almost entirely narrative- someone telling a story, but with very little actual dialogue. These days, a story has dialogue. Whereas this is almost entirely from the perspective of an observer. Still really interesting. From the description, I expected the female characters to be heroic, but I'd describe them as the ultimate survivors.
