Wonderful Reading Captures Book's Action Perfectly

Damballa.... a hero the people really needed!

Would you listen to Damballa again? Why?
Damballa from acclaimed writer, Charles Saunders, known for his groundbreaking work on the IMARO book series, that I highly recommend, gives the readers a hero who would give Doc Savage, The Shadow, The Avenger, The Spider, and The Green Lama a run for their money. And as a fan of the Black Panther of Marvel Comics, Damballa was right up my alley. In many ways, Damballa forsees the rise of superhuman vigilantes of color some thirty years before their appearance. And in a time when there were no known pulp heroes of color in print, Mr. Saunders is able to redress a serious and tragic incident in literary history. And as far as the story itself, Mr. Saunders could not have picked a more perfect period in race relations than using a very important boxing match (Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling) as the basis for an adventure that has international intrigue written all over it. And the narrator, Calvin Worthen, was skillfully able to embody ever single character he voiced and set the tone of the novel so well that you get caught up in that time period leading up to the Second World War. You did an outstanding job, Mr. Worthen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Damballa. He is proto-Black Panther in movement, and a master in tactical thinking. He's a master Chessmaster who think many moves ahead of his opponents. I wish he had existed back in the days of pulp literature. He would have been a force to be reckoned with.
What about Calvin Worthen’s performance did you like?
Everything single moment of the book was served well by Mr. Worthen's voice. He got into the time period as he described Harlem of the late 1930s, and as he voiced every character. His narration made me want a crossover between Damballa and Derrick Ferguson's Fortune McCall. That's how great of a job he did. Mr. Saunders did well to have Mr. Worthen narrate DAMBALLA.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Damballa: Guardian of Harlem

Seriously, there needs to be a crossover between Damballa and Fortune McCall, and his team. Narrated by Calvin Worthen, of course. Airship 27 and Pro Se Productions get on it!

Fun from start to finish!

What made the experience of listening to Hyperforce the most enjoyable?
Zachary Owen Turner. This man has a future in audiobook recordings! He literally gets into character every time he speaks, bringing all of the characters he voices alive.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Solaron: Imagine if Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four), Hank Pym (Ant-Man/Giant Man/Yellowjacket of The Avengers) and Ray Palmer (The Atom of the Justice League) were fused into one super-genius intellect with Captain Atom's powers. That's him.
Have you listened to any of Zachary Owen Turner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. But I would now. He's outstanding!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh many times. Because Zachary Turner got into the essence of the characters and the inflections in his voice when he changed from character to character was amazing. And as things got tense throughout the book, Mr. Turner delivered the goods. Mr. Angelo chose well when he chose Mr. Turner to read HYPERFORCE.
Any additional comments?
A well done enterprise by Mr. Angelo and Mr. Turner. I hope they work together again soon. The only thing missing from the audiobook was added sound effects. And God help me if there's another edition of the audiobook with sound effects added in with Mr. Turner narrating. Now that would be a dream come true. A true 5/5 stars. A must listen. Especially, if you have a lot of time on your hands. I highly recommend listening to this book.

Better than your wildest dreams! A must listen!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am a big fan of Ralph L. Angelo's THE CAGLIOSTRO CHRONICLES trilogy because it is literally a combination of Doc Savage and his Amazing Five, The Challengers of The Unknown, and the Fantastic Four in outer space pushing the limits of space opera literature. And that's exactly what it is. High octane, balls to the wall, we're going out into the great unknown with intergalactic political intrigue thrown into the mix. So imagine my surprise when I found out that there was an audiobook from Audible.com of the first books and in the trilogy? Over the Moon and on Cloud 9 would be the expression. And with oustanding narration by Tristan Wright, I was pleasantly rewarded. To hear the story and to visualize what I was hearing was beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. And it made me hopeful that, in time, Mr. Wright will be narrating the next two CAGLIOSTRO CHRONICLES books. I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook. And I would recommend it to anyone looking for fun, adventure and intrigue. Check out THE CAGLIOSTRO CHRONICLES audiook from Audible.com! You won't be disappointed! Have fun!
